For one thing, the developers for Rising aren't being a dick to the fan base.

For another thing, majority of people actually like cyborg ninjas as oppose to... that. Drastically changing an iconic character is a big massive no-no... Believe me, had it been Snake instead of Raiden, there would be a shitstorm as well.

That's not to say that Rising isn't getting any flak; there are some MGS fans who aren't happy about this series venturing into the action hack n' slash genre. But most people accept that this is not a MGS game, this is a spin-off, it's not like there wouldn't be anymore MGS games.

This is what happens when the media don't actually try to fan the flames; nothing will gets blown out of proportion.

Probably because of the staff intentions. Metal Gear Solid Rising started development as a result of people's request to play as Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4. When Platinum took over the game's development, they collaborated with KojiPro so that the characters and the story would be similar to previous games. Platinum mentioned previously that the plot was made after Solid 4 so that the story would be easy to understand to newcomers unlike KojiPro's original plan for an intersequel.

In contrast, Capcom requested Ninja Theory a massive change to the Devil May Cry series.

By the way, here we have the preorder bonuses of Rising

Something really weird about Japanese Metal Gear Solid 2's Raiden is that has one of the strongest voices ever.

I wonder why they refer to Grey Fox as 'Cyborg Ninja'?

In the first two games he was called Gray Fox but in Metal Gear Solid they mostly refer to him as Deepthroat and Cyborg Ninja since they didn't know his identity yet. The latter nickname (as well as the costume) was also used by Olga in Solid 2.

I thinkt that's the main reason.

One is a reboot that effectively destroyed the franchise (there will be no more classic DMC games unless the game bombs spectacularly) while the other is merely a spin-off that will have no incidence on the rest of the saga (another classic MGS is already set to come out). If you don't like Rising, you can just skip it and keep enjoy your classic Metal Gears. You don't have that option with DMC. The original DMC fanbase has been totally screwed over, that's why they're so mad.

The Cyborg Ninja program. The name Cyborg Ninja comes from the exoskeleton and the h.f. sword they use. After his defeat by Snake, Grays body was recovered and put into a high tech exoskeleton by Clark and used as a test subject. The extra mobility, enhancing strength, speed, evade and jumping ability and the weapon basically turned him into an artificial ninja. Gray was the first and prototype named the Cyborg Ninja. This name was also used in MGS 1 when they referred to him because they didn't knew who he was.

Ah, Okay, I knew who he was and all. I thought the people who wrote the article forgot who he was called or something silly like that.

I wonder if Olga's cyborg ninja suit will become an unlockable.

Btw if you got the MGS HD collection playing MGS3 Snake Eater the bonus Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 from the nes are included. Funny thing about MGS3 is that it makes fun of Raiden alot seems Kojima knows he's not well received by fans, you can unlock it in MGS3.

The E3 Trailer Raiden was booed. No kidding.

I'm a little bothered that the game looks like it encourages you to use stealth (with the Alert bar and what not) and not go crazy like a hack 'n' slash.

I figured because it's a spin off it'll be different to what we're used to in the MG/MGS series.

It's just to appease fans of MGS, I highly doubt the stealth mechanics would be any deeper than say Uncharted.

That's good to hear, I wouldn't mind it if it was advertised like a stealth game, but the trailers show Raiden always running into battle head on (IIRC) making you think this game is based around its combat, but then when you actually play the game you find you're penalized for getting caught.

We'll just have to wait and see. Still gonna get it.

The stealth was added to the game just because Platinum thought it ended being too simple. The second level has soldiers attacking civlians so even a pacifist would want to fight.

Storyline's Raiden will be always focused on fighting with the exception of the Mexico chapter. I think this is because of the Jack The Ripper storyline.

Seriously? You get penalized? I must have missed that in the demo.

It just ranks down your ranking when you get caught as I played in the demo.
It's pretty much similar to Tenchu in doing stealth kills sneak up, you can always fight head on if you messed up which would be easier with guards, but it also like the MG games alert other guards and Gekco's nearby.

Having never played Tenchu, I have a feeling it'll be like Uncharted; there will be stealth areas, but more or less everything will come back to ACTION.

Tenchu is more of a ninja stealth game which pretty much makes you to a real ninja, though there are exaggeration like powers, demons, time travel and so on. Though you can indeed go strait ahead and just kill off enemies it will rank you low.

Anyways here's the FIRST MGR - Metal Gear Raiden Snake Eraser.

The case of Metal Gear Solid 2's Raiden has been studied by several books and they get deep.

The problem is that it deceived the paying customer. It is one thing to sell a complex story, it is another to lie to your customer on what they are buying.

If I bought a comic book but found War and Peace being the actual content of the volume, I would not say I was rewarded with good literature. MGS2 was too clever in that Kojima thought he doesn't have to care about what the buyer wants.

The insult added to injury is that the game start screen switches from a picture of Snake to Raiden once you finished the game. So you bought a game thinking you were buying a Solid Snake game, but once you finished you realised it was all a deliberate lie. There was no misunderstanding; kojima wants to preach to the gamer that he doesn't have the right to be Solid Snake.
