I'm sure the Hayate fans won't like it because it deviates from their pre-established views of what Hayate should be like, but really, episodes like this just let the series go wild. One thing people have to remember is that Hayate is nothing more than a frame tale for a lot of gags, inside and slapstick jokes and over-the-top action - if you want real romantic development, watch School Days or KGNE, this is the wrong type of show to laud over.
I don't really see how it deviates from the pre-established view of Hayate. Hayate goes around saving people who are in trouble and he does exactly that in this episode.

I wouldn't exactly call School Days real romantic development, but KGNE is a serious romance drama.

this episode best part for me is Isumi, long time never see her show up in the show ...

It seem like many Nagi's friend are protecting her, from this episode when Isumi say don't tell Nagi about she is so strong??

Next episode, Hinagiku show up, finally have some exciting story ...

The way I read it is that Isumi is the cause of Nagi's fear of the dark

Ok the first half of this show was just so random that i did not find it funny.. The second half kind of rescued this ep from disaster with some Isumi moments (seeing Isumi trying to be assertive wins!), we also got Sakuya blushing when Hayate saves her from those weird monkey things..

Overall a bit too random, wouldn't mind a bit more story amidst all this randomness.

Isumi must be a really good horror storyteller.

Not really. She just describes what she did that day.

"I woke up this morning, and went to wash my face, but the giant zombie spiders wouldn't let me cross the rotting rope bridge across the magma-filled chasm...."
