oh god?!?! Rudy is not ordinary adventurer????
I don't notice that...

Thought this would be a boring episode... but it turns out to be interesting
poor Akatsuki... she's too confused to keep up

losing memories indeed as scary as losing life... just like certain anime where the immortal protagonist lost their "runes"/memories...

Well, you won't end up as a vegetable here though.

In any case, the action will be coming up soon. Let's see how the newbies fare this time.

We VVV now.

Nice ep, even if the infodump was executed as standard fare. Akatsuki's reactions, Shiroe's thoughts and the cinematic makes it bearable. Lots of juicy info though.

The revelations and the way game mechanics are tied into the 'history/workings' of the world are very cool and interesting.

What bothers me in this episode is the ranking of magic classes which are listed as:-

動作 Action
戦闘 Combat
作戦 Operation
戦術 Tactics

戦略 Strategy
国防 National
大陸 Continent
世界 World

In particular, Operation and Tactics (in bold) seem to be backwards. In modern military theory, the three levels of war are tactical < operational < strategic (Three Levels of War)

In Japanese, these three levels of war are written as tactical 戦術, operational 作戦 and strategic 戦略.
"作戦術(さくせんじゅつ Art of operations)とは戦争を指導する戦略の下位、そして戦闘を指導する戦術の上位において、作戦を指 導する技術(Art)を指す概念である"
"The art of operations (作戦術) is the concept which indicates the art of directing operations (作戦), which is below strategy (戦略) which directs a war, and above tactics (戦術) which directs combat/battle (戦闘)".

Wow, Shiroe has been playing the same MMO for 8 WHOLE YEARS!? ...and the level cap was still 90 until May I wonder what logging out seemed like to these people - particularly when most people log out in the middle of a town.

Lots of information about the world, very interesting stuff, especially the whole losing memories bit. What would happen if someone were to do it like Delmikas and send someone to the cathedral 90 times in a row? Is the penalty hard-capped at 0% exp of a level? Can player levels drop? Why are the adventurers respawning at the cathedral in particular? Do goblins have a respective location from where they appear?

Losing memory huh, that's they death penalty.
Well it seem Minori group has losing a bit of they memory since they all forgot he already told them to call him Rudy.
It's really creepy to think of losing memory.
They didn't die though, they just ran away...

The level cap was raised several times during the run of Elder Tales. There is nothing indicate that 90 was the level cap when Shiroe began playing. And same level cap for several years isn't really rare in MMOG

Log Horizon in 2018 is still a Mouse and Keyboard game not VR.

I don't see them use any mouse and keyboard to move around right now. If it's virtual or actual reality is up for grabs.

Well it's also not a game anymore either, so I wouldn't count that as part of the evolution

Well, the game mechanics of classes, respawns etc are still there. It's also the same world, the only thing that have changed is how the "players" percieve the world. Even while they were still playing a MMORPG so were they actually controlling avatars in this universe. So the only thing that has changed is how real it feels for the "players", it was never actually just a game.

Players perception is completely unimportant to how the world works, to be honest.
You should be focusing more on the fact that laws of physics works, and that's why "steam power" and other various methods of replicating physics functionally works.

level progression of Elder Tales sounds like WoWarcraft

Where it increase by 5~10 levels per expansion

And WoW's been out for about 8~10 years.

It started out as 60.
Current level cap is 90, and is about to go into 100.

Really liked all the background info we got this episode. And Minori finally speaking up was good too.

Not to sound like the typical Shonen fan, but are there ever going to any fights that aren't just your run of the mill dungeon kills? We haven't really gotten anything of note since the Rescue Serara arc and it doesn't look like we'll be getting any good fights anytime soon.

You know, it really depends.
If Azeroth is just like how it's represented in the game, then it's disappointingly small and unrealistic.
But if the Azeroth we're going to is the actual Azeroth, completely realized from the lore, then heck yeah, SIGN ME UP.

My ultimate goal would be creating harem of humans, draenei, both elves, and goblins.
Not enough halflings in that world. Time to populate.

Clean out the Defias in Westfall and build a fort above that pirate cave!

Hell, I might just buy the new Expansion when it comes out for the 0.00000000000001% chance that it might happen

MMORPGs didn't exist in the late 1980s (unless you count MUDs, I guess)... did it start off as a normal, single-player RPG ala Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest?
I think you're missing another possibility. The MMO didn't create the world, the world, specifically the World Fracture spells, created the MMO.

Perhaps that was when the development starts? you know, when they just began to have some rough ideas about the story or whatsoever

yea, sounds like some sort of spell shoots out into our world and gave the developers idea to start and make the game Elder Tales, which the world already exists according to latest episodes.

As a RO player, I'd be glad to be spirited away to Rune Midgard.
