Video Editing Question: How to turn off the sound?

I have a question. how do you turn off the sound on a video? I want to put my own music on a video that I am planning on posting on Youtube but I don't know how to put out the sound.

I don't know what program you are planning (?) to use, but Windows Movie Maker (version 2.6 for me) is able to do that. Drag the clip you want to play to the 'Video' bar while the Timeline is showing (if you see 'Show Storyboard' on screen then you are viewing the Timeline so don't click it). Then right-click the bar that was just added that is in the 'Audio' section. Although the bar under 'Audio' will still be there, it does not play any sound. Now add whatever music you want to the bar 'Audio/Music'.

Video and Audio are added at the same time but right-clicking under the 'Video' section does not give the option to mute it.

I am looking to create a clip using VirtualDub and Movie Maker but I don't know how to turn off the audio so that I can put my music in. It was gonna to be a Game of Thrones clip where Joffery slaps Tyrion but I don't know how to turn off the audio where I can put my music in. Can you help?

I barely use Movie Maker (just to cut clips to convert to gifs) and I have no idea what VirtualDub can do so I can only help with the very basic things. However, if you won't read/don't understand my pure text then I'll suggest not wasting both our time. If you don't understand it, I admit it's my fault.

Top menu bar "Audio" -> "Audio from another file..."

Not quite sure if this is what you are after, but its worth a try

usually you can strip the audio from the video so they're separate files and then you can delete it without getting rid of the video
