Great to see it animated. The soundtrack is superb as well. Great job Wit Studio once again.

"I am strong. Stronger than all of you. Extremely strong. I can kill all those Titans there. Even if I'm alone. You are either incompetent or you are spineless cowards. How pathetic. You can sit here and suck on your fingers. Yeah, do that.......

If I can't, I die. If I win, I live.

But unless I fight, I cannot win."

And the crowd goes wild.....

Rarely do I break out 9, but here you go. 9.4....

Mikasa, be my waifu!

Pretty sure you'd be her waifu, monir. All of us would be.

Harem for Mikasa is completely acceptable, not that she would accept any of us.

Good point. I'm told I look pretty decent in hadaka apron.

So apparently there's a new form of deviant Titan. It seems to be pretty good at killing other Titans with great prejudice, so maybe they can just wait for it to finish its job. No further human casualties needed.

The look on Mikasa's face when the Titan's actions saved her is pretty priceless.

Oh Renegade Titan, how you tickle my fancy with your beheading falcon punches.

And this is why Short Blade is one of my favorite chapters in the manga...and now my favorite episode in the anime so far.

Wow, just... wow! I didn't feel half so emotionally involved when I read this part in the manga, and I already knew what was going to happen this time!

I'm really impressed by how IG is dealing with this adaption, in spite of the still frames that too often pop up the direction is very well done. This was the best episode so far for me, and probably the best episode of all the anime of this season!

It's strange though... did they just choose to draw Mikasa's eyes normally so that they could show her dead eyes in this part only?
This is my only minor complaint. Mikasa should have those eyes full time, as she has in the manga.

I'm new here (obviously) but I just had to be sure; I'm not the only non-reader viewer of the show who can see just what that Titan obviously is, right?

Spoiler for My assumption:

I swear if I'm wrong I'll literally eat my hat. Gotta admit, sort of disappointed. I thought this show was going to be about regular humans prevailing over impossible odds through their own ingenuity, but instead they now have their own Titan to fight for them. I would once like to see an anime where humans can overcome obstacles through their own grit.

That's definitely Eren's way of life, don't you think Mikasa is Eren's legacy?

There are a ton of those out there already, and humanity is pretty screwed on their own as it stands.

Serious question then, could you name me some? I mean humanity overcoming something totally out of its league like the Titans without building giant fighting robots or something. I just mean I found it much more interesting when I thought that through their own power they would overcome.

Very nice episode, in the manga I wasn't really attached to this scene, but man the anime is great!

Plus:
A- We saw that thing attack titans berserk style...doesn't mean it's an ally to humans (enemy of my enemy only works when the enemy of your enemy isn't suddenly going to rip your head off and we don't know if it will yet).
B- There's currently 1 Renegade Titan that we know of and possibly thousands, if not several millions of normal Titans (+Abnormal Titans) still out there and from how the second titan it took down acted, they do seem to attack it, or at least defend themselves so it's not going to be trolololing its way through them without getting smacked around too. It's like a strong dude fighting against a horde of zombies single and empty handedly sure it might take one or two down while isolated but get enough of them in one spot and it won't get far.

The odds are not evened out in the slightest.

To be fair though, there’s also quite a number of works where humanity is able to fight some “alien beings” by using the same "alien element" (Evangelion, Gurren Lagann (first arc), Arpeggio of Blue Steel to name a few) just like what happened in this SnK episode.

In short, both “humans fighting with their own tech” and “humans fighting using some of their opponents’ powers” already done many times before, so I think there's no point arguing over it.
