If you find these old songs somewhere, please post the links/videos here for nostalgia.

Do post them, even if only for the lulz.

The main reason why anime songs aren't that pleasant-sounding is because the translators are making mistakes in translating. Modern Tagalog focuses on more common vocabulary, and literally translating stuff, especially the cryptic nature of many Japanese songs, will not produce awesome results all the time.

Actually, I would prefer "Pinagbubuklod Tayo ng Pag-Ibig (Love Binds us Together)" as the Tagalog title of Watashi no Koi wa Hocchikisu.

Hmmm. thinking about that if Pinoy slangs can be use as a substitute for a Filipino translation just to make it rhyme with the Japanese original lyrics. Can't give an immediate example for that but..... again its hilarious..... But I love Pinoy!!!!!

I agree that translations, especially if it's intended to be sing-along, should match the syllable, even the sound/pronunciation if possible. That makes it sound better as well as makes it easier for the singer.

I think it would still be possible to get the deeper meaning from the literal translation.

that's a good suggestion, but i would prefer to write the title as it is. (just translating anyways). although your suggestion is more straight to the point, and reflects the song in the way that Mio wrote it, so yeah. Ang Mahal kong Istepler pa rin ako hehehe

yeah, do any of you guys know of the tagalog opening of BTX? i love that anime. i used to sing it when i was younger.

"maglalakbay ako patungo sa kawalan, upang hamunin itong pangarap sa buhay. at susunugin ko itong kadiliman. nakita ko na ang liwanag ng katarungan!!!"

Only Child friendly animes are shown in the Philippines dahil "conservative" kuno. But I kinda agree, don't want ecchi or yuri being shown at broad dayline after T Patrol... wahahahah.

Kaya di na nagevolve masyado , I mean, the anime songs to Filipino here..... only in the Cable lang we watch them....

Ok, lang Taglish di ba?

By the way, Protest daw tayo, because TV5 has removed the remaining anime being shown at their channel!! Peste na paulit ulit na anime sa GMA, Good for Studio 23 and QTV

Please somment at my thread guys, thank you!!

There's still Hero TV, which is decent enough in producing dubbed anime. I even watch Major Season 5 there occasionally.

I always laugh at tagalog dub of an anime, But it's kinda COOL. When I was young (As in batang wala pang kaalam-alam. xD) I've always heard a old-school anime na tagalog opening. (I forget what anime is that.)

Anyway, I want to share my unfinished Hare Hare Yukai Kyon version lyrics XD

Dahil ako'y walang, walang minimithi (Gawin mo gusto mo)

Hahahaha! Ok, finish this crazy joke!
lol

Hmm... (I think this still needs correction)

Parang ikaw / ay gumagawa / ng hula para sa hinaharap mo naman
Kahit na meron ako alam na ibang daan
Wag kang lumingon /sa akin dahil/ ang mukha mo ay kuminkintab
Mga Bituin, aliwin mo nga ako
Sayang 'to / sa oras ko, BYUNN!!
Kung magtatayo / ka ng mura't astig / na event, pede ng sabihin kong nahihiya ako / na makasali!

Anyway I need to rest a bit...

Nice one Garigari-kun and bhl88. One of the reasons why I started this thread is to welcome constructive criticism on the translations.

I think Taglish is ok for this thread at least. I was a little apprehensive before because I know this site is an English language site.

I don't know about protesting. It's a reality that demand for anime still pales to the demand for live action series from Asian countries.

yup, yet another reason to feel hesitant about your true nationality. i guess Filipinos on their mind are lower class primitives, or something. just screw them, they no nothing that they speak.

yup, those animes in GMA and ABS-CBN (w8, AbS CBN don't seen to air animes anymore, i think) seems to be repeating, as if reminding us that the best animes were in the past, and the present are just a load of bologna. (which i don't believe). yeah, but some animes cannot be aired because we are so "conservative" and such. those foreign cultures may seem alien to the Filipino viewers. and yeah, putting those shows like yuri and the like, say right after TV patrol, or 24 oras, or Willing Willie (whatever you are watching every night, whatever it is), would be a bad idea. i guess Pinoys wanted tear-jerkers, fantasy, and bunch of hair-pulling madness on their primetime.

well, they did good job on dubbing animes, especially Hero. i just kinda wished they would go for more accuracy. they are making a lot of mistakes in translating into animes like Yugioh GX (which i watch evryday). but those new schedules are really a pain.

i might post my translates songs here, that is, if i have the time to type it, hehehe.
