Well, for starters, an avatar is pretty much your desires and traumas made physical, so he'll probably have abilities that are based more on one-on-one matches, and will probably have an avatar that's completely crap at tag-team battles. Either that, or his tag-team partner will usually end up at a disadvantage, thus making people reluctant to tag with him.
The brother complex isn't much of a heart wound/trauma but more of an infatuation, though. If it stems from the desire of being protected, then perhaps the avatar could be a puppeteer type, controlling a much large puppet while remaining behind the scenes. To tie it in with the brother complex, perhaps the puppet could be nicknamed "Ani". |

"Anikin, I choose you!" *pop* More seriously, do we know anything about the Chocolate Puppeteer that showed up recently? And for Lone Wolf, I'm beginning to seriously consider taking a character from churchblue. Aren't they all loners and observers? And best, the lucky guy gets to be slaughtered by Kings at the end. The guy has to be given credit for only one thing, for following a Hollywood checklist on how to design a main character. Annnd I'm done. Last edited by Tusjecht; 2013-01-28 at 03:23. |

You know, I really don't know why Duel Avatars are given the ability to eat and enjoy virtual food, but it makes one wonder... Well, as Silver Crow, Haruyuki felt the warm, soft hands of Kuroyukihime Black Swallowtail avatar on his face. He immediately realized that the Accelerated World lacked "adult/child restrictions". I wonder if it's possible to have on-line sex with Duel Avatars. I keep think about Scarlet Rain getting a boyfriend and doing it inside the confines of her Immobile Fortress. She sits on his lap and fires all her weapons when she hits her peak. (It's unlikely but possible that she already did this with Cherry Rook.) Cyan Pile could pay Chiyu back for that Accel Assault incident. Lime Bell can turn back the clock so that you're immediately ready for the next round. Silver Crow and Sky Raker and any partners of whom are inevitable members of the Mile High Club. For the protection of her partner, Black Lotus needs her arms restrained. (It also eases any fears of suffering Death By Embracing.) Cobalt Blade and Manganesse Blade privately insist that Blue Knight's greatest sword isn't the Impulse. The young man who was once Red Rider really doesn't know where his curiously selective masochistic streak came from, but he's fascinated by precise, electrical shocks. Also, he occassionally daydreams about creating or modifying toys for his lover. Last edited by Sunder the Gold; 2013-01-28 at 22:11. |

Small, lightweight, weak, frail. Graceful, but without strength it isn't very fast or agile. As an Orange avatar, likely uses a "pet" for fighting. Like maybe a teddy bear that transforms into a grizzly for battle. This makes her look all the cuter by providing a constant contrasting companion -- the bigger the bear, the smaller she looks. She can even claim that the bear's savage actions are automatic rather than her deliberate control (especially if it means her brother makes sure to fight as many of her battles as possible to prevent the bear from mauling people). As a Yellow avatar, uses some insidious method of defending herself and attacking an opponent that isn't immediately obvious. Being able to win even though it doesn't seem like she's fighting at all. Invisible poison gas, or radiation? A special attack that exchanges her Health Meter for her opponent's? Or is the sister less concerned about gaining all of her brother's affection and more interested in being useful to the brother? A Yellow avatar based around scanning the environment, detecting enemies, scanning and analying abilities and tools would make her a valuable support. This could even be tied into a predictive ability (Spider-Sense) that alerts her to incoming attacks, for her own personal defense. (And if she knows exactly when and from where an attack comes, she can afford to just barely dodge them and perhaps even make it look like she's doing it accidentally, through adorable clumsiness. Which might provoke a big brother instinct.) |

Avatars are just that, avatars. False images.
So, what happens if a girl suddenly drops her avatar in the safety of their home server in response to a guy saying he wants to stay with her that night? *RUNS FASTER*

Shino is mainly interested in just being with her brother forever; it's more of Sora/Haru relationship (minus the 16.5) than a Kirino/Kyousuke relationship. Rather than merely being useful to him, that takes out all the affection. Quote:
The duel avatars of Kyousuke and Shino, I have in mind, are supposed to be complementary in alot of ways. Eg. Turquoise Protector has strong shields, but the armour on his body is super weak; his wish is to protect his sister, not himself. Shino, I have in mind, is not aiming to support anyone else, but her brother alone. How that translates is the difficult part. One of my earlier ideas was for Shino to be a long-range specialist, her special move is a killer thunderbolt from the sky that takes really long to charge. The idea was to complement Turquoise Protector; he hugs her, rendering her invulnerable to frontal damage while she charges. And another was for her to 'summon' Protector via teleportation. The perfect tag team. The thing is, I myself don't believe duel avatars can be so highly specific as to complement only a single avatar. Even an avatar like Lime Bell, her dream was to rewind time of Haru and Taku but she can use it on anyone. That's why I turned to this thread for ideas. |

Just be glad I didn't share any of my thoughts about Kurrent/Aqua Current. Squickiest by FAR.

I failed to account for the idea of an older sister with a brother-complex, though. That is, a big sister obsessed with protecting and/or monopolizing her cute little brother. But that's not much different from a protection-oriented brother with a sister-complex. Quote:

Sand Duct sort of employs this. His Sand Blaster attack (when used against anyone besides Aqua Current) probably blasts someone off their feet and far away. His Molecular Driver sucks opponents closer. His hover-skating ability also allows him to more easily close distance against Reds or create distance from Blues. (His large size is probably also misleading; I'd bet he's not as strong or armored as he appears, but he LOOKS intimidating until you know better.) I'm not sure how an avatar could be better than Duct at moving other people around, considering how limited he was at it. Quote:
Two avatars can be specialized in such a way that their strengths cover for each other's weaknesses, but each avatar MUST be designed to fight alone. That's why they're called DUEL avatars. Essentially, everything must begin from (and come down to) a duel. |

I now want to share with you a concept for a unique duel avatar.
KALEIDOSCOPE FAKER Color: White or [Black/Colorless] This avatar has no ability at all except the power to copy the appearance, abilities (and weaknesses), and items (equipped and stored) of another Duel Avatar. "Mimic" is a normal ability which costs no Special Meter. The transformation lasts for 30 minutes (the maximum length of a duel) or until the copied target has been KOed, disconnected, or removed from the challenge zone in the real world. Outside of a duel, if the transformation is canceled, a new target can be copied immediately; however, no transformation can be voluntarily canceled, so Faker has to choose carefully each time. "Mimic" does not change Faker's own Level, so he becomes a weaker copy when targeting higher Level avatars. That is, if a Level 1 Faker copied the Level 9 Black Lotus, he would become a perfect copy of the Level 1 Black Lotus. But if a Level 7 Faker copied a Level 1 Silver Crow, he would become a Level 7 Silver Crow. The transformation does not copy any of the bonuses a target chose for leveling up. Even if he achieved Level 9, he would not be able to copy all of a King's abilities. Further, this could mean a Level 7 Faker might be not as fast a flier as the Level 5 Silver Crow, who has put bonuses into improving his flight speed, so they might be more evenly matched than they first seem. This is especially true when one considers the fact that Silver Crow will be far more accustomed to his avatar's own strengths and how to use them. Copying a King likewise grants none of a king's combat skills or experience. So even a perfect copy would not make Faker the equal of his target. This becomes triply-true when one factors in Incarnate System skills. Kaleidoscope Faker has two basic paths for how his level-up bonuses can improve his Mimic power. 1) Improve the quality of the copy; for each bonus he invests here, he can copy one of his target's own level-up bonuses, starting with the first they chose and moving down the line. He cannot pick and choose the bonuses unless targeting a character who has fewer bonuses than Faker has invested in this ability. For example, if Faker has invested four level bonuses into this upgrade, he could target a Level 1 Silver Crow and then choose four of Silver Crow's potential upgrades. If Kaleidoscope Faker reached Level 9 and sunk all bonuses into this upgrade, he could copy all of a King's abilities, except their Incarnate System skills. 2) Remove Mimic's restrictions. For example, being able to cancel the transformation early, so that Faker can choose a different target when his current form is no longer advantageous. If Kaleidoscope Faker reached Level 9 and sunk all bonuses into this upgrade, he could possibly STORE the form of anyone he's ever copied, even if they've been deleted from the Accelerated World. There's a third possible path for improving Faker's Mimic ability, but first I need to explain the one part of his power that I am having the most trouble with: At present, I'm not sure how Faker should be able to select his targets. One must not only consider duels, but also the Unlimited Neutral Field. If his sight is normal, and he can only select targets he can see, that puts him at a miserable disadvantage against duel avatars that can hide while they snipe from cover or ambush him at close range. Since his basic form has no abilities at all, and since copying his opponent almost never makes him their equal, this is a problem. One solution is to give Kaleidoscope Faker a basic "special ability" to detect when other avatars are within range in the Unlimited Neutral Field -- perhaps his own personal "matching list". In a duel (or team-battle), this only lets him target and copy an opponent immediately (assuming he doesn't want to copy one of his his own allies). But in the Unlimited Neutral Field, this becomes a powerful information-gathering ability, since he learns WHO IS IN THE FIELD at that time, and thus also who is not. A MUCH weaker alternative is to give Kaleidoscope a choice between targeting an avatar he can see or letting Mimic choose a random target. In a duel, it doesn't matter -- there's only one target. In a team-battle or the Unlimited Neutral Field, he could randomly end up as anyone. Or he could wait until he can see at least one target. Investing level up bonuses into himself rather than Mimic could grant him better vision, or the "personal matching list" mentioned above. I haven't given much thought to Kaleidoscope Faker's possible Incarnate Skills, since I haven't given serious thought to what kind of person could end up with an avatar like this. I leave that as an exercise for other people. As one suggestion, he might be able to hypnotize himself into thinking he actually IS the person he's copied, gaining access to their memories and skills for as long as he is transformed... To keep this from overwhelming the story, he might become so perfect a copy that his own motivations and goals are temporarily lost, and he probably should forget everything he's "learned" when he returns to normal. Or perhaps his Incarnate Skill can manifest upgrades that the target never chose, allowing him to overcome his imperfect copies by going BEYOND a mere copy. I think Faker works best as the central protagonist of a story (starting as a Level 1 character and working through his considerable mental issues) or as a major villain (starting as a high-level character, with all of the powers granted by his possible bonus choices). |
