Loved almost everything about this episode. Nice mix of cuteness, coolness, and humor.

Momoko and Yumi. <3 That's all.

Speaking of Yumi, loved her battle outfit and her ron of stealing the kong.

Also, the white lilies popping up was hilarious in a cool way. Liked Saki showing off her stuff and people starting to realize she's actually a good player.

To Quarkboy, maybe it's just me, but I really hope you just keep the "Rinshan Kaihou" untranslated. After all, it's a special yaku and the special ability of the main character. You're not gonna translate literally another yaku in the next episode, right?

Looks like Gonzo is using all the flashbacks that can be used. It's a valid technique, knowing how the source material is left. Quite surprising to see the end they use today but overall, this is the crux and this is the match where things really heat up.

On the story, I'm really impressed with Kajiki's calculated thinking. She's really someone who reacts accordingly to the situation and responds in the best manner. Her decision to go for "Steal Kong" is really quite something. We'll see more.

Nice touch with battle outfits. I guessed this works as well. Now, everyone is a gladiator of sorts.

New OP was meh. ED was slightly better.

To those interested, in Tenhou, Rinshan Kaihou comprised on average 0.3% of all yakus in all games. That's how rare it is. Interestingly, the other one is also 0.3%. Was it on purpose?

If i were Momo i would have felt really stupid, like one time when i was playing Rikimaru and my team can't liberate the Gem of True Seeing from the opposing team. That was some serious OWNAGE.

6 yakuman on a discard when you're not east would be 32,000*6= 192,000 points FROM ONE SINGLE PLAYER.

That hand would end Saki's tournament in the very first round if it occurred (and so would a number of other 4 yakuman hand possibilities).

I don't know riichi mahjong well but isn't winning 8 times in a row considered a yakuman?

If so wouldn't getting WWW NNN EEE SSS GG as your 8th hand make it a 6 yakuman as East?

Yeah. Yumi is a darn good player. This episode had all sorts of my favorite characters (Momoko! Saki! Yumi!) and it was glorious.

Come to think of it, that must have been a really crappy table last year for the prefectural finals. Kana has gone from being 2nd last year to probably the worst player at the table this year. Although maybe it's not so surprising given that Imamiya made it to the finals last year...

On a side note, the reporter side plot was hilarious along with that really dramatic reaction. I have to say I found it funny that the male reporter who doesn't seem as into the mahjong scene is more on the right track than the female reporter.

The manga mentioned both had did quite a few articles on Miyanaga Teru.

The guy mentioned Saki's back reminded him of Teru and he being the photographer after all, doesn't make it so surprising he has a better memory of how Teru looked like.

Oh ho? Is that why there was so many back shots of Saki? I wonder if that's what tipped off Mihoko and Fujita-pro too? In their case, I think maybe they just have a subconscious association / feeling as opposed to a real definite idea of what makes them think Saki is a monster.

I didn't spend all that much time looking at it but it just seemed to show a Rinshan Kaihou hand followed by another random winning hand. Why is that such a warning flag?

ii) The second and third rows refers to tiles she drew and discarded. If you see an arrow in the second row, it means she drew the tile in the third row below and threw it (i.e. she didn't kept it). If you see a tile in the second row, that means she kept the second row tile and discarded the third row tile.

iii) The fourth and final row refers to her hand when she tsumo.

What was intriguing was three points:
i) She got the 4th 4-pin early on but she didn't kong there and then.
ii) She kept the "west wind" tile even though she discarded all the rest of the "unneeded" tiles, even when she should "logically" discard that and go for something more logical. (like that 3-sou for example)
iii) When Saki went into tenpai with that 6-pin she got, she immediately kong with the 4 4-pins and tsumo with a Rinshan Kaihou, which is of course her signature style.

Based on the three points, it is safe to conclude Saki knew what she was doing and hence our dear captain knew it immediately. (The rest were just the hands that the other opponents had at that time. And yes, I freezed that scene and analysed Saki's game. )

2) Hagiyoshi probably was with Touka when their entire team passed by Saki. We just didn't see him.

Thanks for the explanation, esp. on how the records worked! I had no idea what was going on although I got that she won on a Rinshan Kaihou. Pretty cool play by Saki.

That game record wasn't actually drawn in the manga. That was something they added in into the anime, which is quite well-done in my opinion.

Although it disproved my own thought that Saki completed her game in the 1st prelims in such a short time with a dealer yakuman worth 48 000 points dealt by that team left with 46 800 points, thus knocking them out in one game.

It's probably just me but I didn't really find Saki's section of the game exciting at all. Sure the characters were all going mad on screen at her impossible wins but for me it felt really underwhelming. Then you get the part where the entire scene turns into some battle adventure game and Yumi throws spears at Saki to stop her winning streak...I think by now it has gotten rather old and perhaps even slightly annoying if it isn't only just Touka doing it towards Nodoka.

On the otherhand, it was great to see Nodoka make junk out of Momo's cheating ass ability. Stealth mode my ass. When you play MJ it should be fair skills (even god like luck is considered a fairer skill than stealth) and so it was great to see her shocked face when Nodoka was able to see through her discards.

Kodomo is 16? Who would have guessed...and that sure was a cute entrance she made

Seems like Kana is going to be offered up as a lamb to Koromo.
