Well then I suggest you try something even more different from the "standard stuff"
Suicide Club It's a japanese movie, and I doubt you'll find anything more centered about suicide than this.

Suicide Island. It's in the title.
It's actually a survival manga (see the "Island" part), but every character is a suicide survivor. The author is an expert at writing psychological manga; his other famous series is the impressive psychological fighting manga Holyland. Quite the premise; we've seen "normal" humans going through island survival experiences often enough, but what if everyone already wanted to die...? Dark and serious, powerfully psychological; be careful. Also, watch Paranoia Agent. Some of the episodes deal with the suicide theme. Other episodes deal with other equally dark sides of the human psyche. An extraordinary series from the late genius Satoshi Kon who made the critically-acclaimed Paprika, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, and other masterpieces of Japanese animation. Alas that he would pass on so young... |

I don't know if you're willing to put up with the shoujo supernatural-ness of the rest of the story, but suicide and the will to live (or lack thereof) are pretty major themes of the Full Moon wo Sagashite manga.

Second for Welcome to the NHK! I also suggest the first story arc in Aoi Bungaku called "No Longer Human."
