Hmm I really like Makoto infact he is my favourite but he backstory was kinda lame.
the cpr scene wouldnt be so bad since its to save life but the overall theme emphasize the sexual content behind it. Our society in general is way too sexualized we have even dirty thoughts seeing a woman eating a banana. |

Anyway, I took a break from anime for a month and then marathoned Free!, and holy crackers, it's even gayer than the first episode made me think it would be. I haven't rooted for a male couple since No6, but boy am I doing it now. Well, no one is getting together for real, but there's so much subtext it practically doesn't matter. By the way, I thought Nagisa would end up as the "weepy uke" out of the bunch, but unexpectedly it's Rei. That was some plot twist. I thought I would be watching Free for the beefcake - and luckily there's plenty of that - but the plot is actually engaging and the characters sweet. Haru is a bit of a cold fish and therefore a little boring, but I liked him the last couple of episodes when he melted a bit and started fussing over Makoto. |

maybe in not too serious situations or in ecchi animes but if someone is dying the focus should be on saving the life not some random fantasy. |

If you like to see guys being together, training for a swim competition, having buddy moments, then you should have fun. If you love water animation effects, you'll really have fun. Nobody does water better than KyoAni.

I'd only recommend it if you're curious about what kind of guys otaku girls fantasize about. |

Imagine the K-On girls gender-bent, now with a passion for swimming instead of music/eating cake, and all given bodies comparable to a lean and fit pro wrestler.
I'd also say it's to yaoi what Love Live! is to yuri - There's enough subtext there that you can see it if you want to, but there's also enough ambiguity there that you can dismiss it if you want to. Given that KyoAni very rarely goes as far as a kiss with any of its romances, I doubt you'll see anything all that clear-cut here in Free! either.

It doesn't simply because the female audiences would find it too crude like that. Instead it has guys getting into each other's faces and touching each other too much, admiring each other's well tones bodies, blushing at each other's* compliments etc. All of these create an impression that you're watching a bunch of supermodels making eyes at the audience of the opposite sex instead of actual people and the rest of the story isn't exactly interesting or innovative enough to hold interest once sexy manly chest stays caged in a shirt for more than two minutes.
Not saying the show is bad, but there's a very clear audience for it and it isn't guys. *Can I just say how much I appreciate that in my language "each other" consists of two letters? |

Girls just can't have fun anymore. The minute guys are exposed to the same sort of gender portrayal that girls are, their shorts get tied up in a wad. So girls like to see their males sculpted, good personalities, cute, smart, sensitive and strong. If the guys are getting defensive, then get a clue and improve yourselves.

What about Kanon? I don't recall that having much kissing in it.
Besides, Kanon is just one of many KyoAni shows. The fact is that KyoAni romances are well-known for being chaste almost to the point of being sterile. Quote:
I don't fully agree with how Blonto characterizes the show, but he has just as much right to address Haiprbim's question as you or I do.
