Hmm I really like Makoto infact he is my favourite but he backstory was kinda lame.
the cpr scene wouldnt be so bad since its to save life but the overall theme emphasize the sexual content behind it.
Our society in general is way too sexualized we have even dirty thoughts seeing a woman eating a banana.

Yes, I quite agree. What has society come to, since a fanservice anime dares to sexualize situations that have been sexualized for decades. Why, some impressionable young woman might take her CPR tips from Free, and then think she knows how to perform CPR in real life, and then lives could be lost! This is very serious, we must alert somebody! The Japanese government, perhaps! The solution is, of course, for anime aimed at women never to sexualize anything. Buckle up, girls, from next season we will all be watching wonderfully thoughtful anime like Valrave, which never sexualizes anything objectionable like rape, for example. Oh, wait.

Anyway, I took a break from anime for a month and then marathoned Free!, and holy crackers, it's even gayer than the first episode made me think it would be. I haven't rooted for a male couple since No6, but boy am I doing it now. Well, no one is getting together for real, but there's so much subtext it practically doesn't matter. By the way, I thought Nagisa would end up as the "weepy uke" out of the bunch, but unexpectedly it's Rei. That was some plot twist.

I thought I would be watching Free for the beefcake - and luckily there's plenty of that - but the plot is actually engaging and the characters sweet. Haru is a bit of a cold fish and therefore a little boring, but I liked him the last couple of episodes when he melted a bit and started fussing over Makoto.

That people watched too much porn as they cant take this seriously.
maybe in not too serious situations or in ecchi animes but if someone is dying the focus should be on saving the life not some random fantasy.

You do realize Free is basically the female equivalent of ecchi animes?

I'll consider it ecchi if one our two female characters in the anime are constantly peeking as the four are changing into their swimwear and the angles are always focus on their biceps, triceps, chest, butt, abs and shoulders.....

Wait.. I'm already seeing those...

Quick question: I'm a boy and I'm not really into "gay stuff". Is Free! worth a watch?

If you like to see guys being together, training for a swim competition, having buddy moments, then you should have fun. If you love water animation effects, you'll really have fun. Nobody does water better than KyoAni.

It's as gay as a bunch of effeminate guys having a mud fight and dry-humping eachother.
I'd only recommend it if you're curious about what kind of guys otaku girls fantasize about.

Aren't you being a bit unfair? It doesn't go that far.

Imagine the K-On girls gender-bent, now with a passion for swimming instead of music/eating cake, and all given bodies comparable to a lean and fit pro wrestler.

I'd also say it's to yaoi what Love Live! is to yuri - There's enough subtext there that you can see it if you want to, but there's also enough ambiguity there that you can dismiss it if you want to. Given that KyoAni very rarely goes as far as a kiss with any of its romances, I doubt you'll see anything all that clear-cut here in Free! either.

It doesn't simply because the female audiences would find it too crude like that. Instead it has guys getting into each other's faces and touching each other too much, admiring each other's well tones bodies, blushing at each other's* compliments etc. All of these create an impression that you're watching a bunch of supermodels making eyes at the audience of the opposite sex instead of actual people and the rest of the story isn't exactly interesting or innovative enough to hold interest once sexy manly chest stays caged in a shirt for more than two minutes.
Not saying the show is bad, but there's a very clear audience for it and it isn't guys.

*Can I just say how much I appreciate that in my language "each other" consists of two letters?

Girls just can't have fun anymore. The minute guys are exposed to the same sort of gender portrayal that girls are, their shorts get tied up in a wad. So girls like to see their males sculpted, good personalities, cute, smart, sensitive and strong. If the guys are getting defensive, then get a clue and improve yourselves.

I quite like the show, though there's a kind of enjoyment I get from seeing certain kinds of male fans melting down over this show, especially in places like sankaku complex.

It's just a fun, fluffy show.

What about Kanon? I don't recall that having much kissing in it.

Besides, Kanon is just one of many KyoAni shows. The fact is that KyoAni romances are well-known for being chaste almost to the point of being sterile.

Who said that girls can't enjoy this show? Haiprbim basically asked if it's possible for a male viewer who's not into yaoi to enjoy this show. That's all that was being addressed.

I don't fully agree with how Blonto characterizes the show, but he has just as much right to address Haiprbim's question as you or I do.

That was before Kyoani converted to militant status-quo-ism and a story was expected to have at least some kind of resolution. Then slice of life happened.
