That stock critique doesn't really work for this particular show.
Well, If you refer to my comment, I was complaining about how little impact the character of Big-Sis has in this episode for me. Her character is not a generic helpless poor little peasant/slave girl, but it felt like that due to the poor execution of the scenes where she should shine. In the manga, there’s a strong vibe of intelligence, strength, and determination to self-improve thanks to the intensity of her interaction with Head-Maid. Yet, I felt almost nothing for Big-Sis in this anime episode due to not-so-good execution which made her felt generic (even though she’s not).

No. Maoyuu's story is both plot-driven and character-driven (even though they don't have actual names).

I think the boar was already there, the scene was proof that the Hero is doing something (getting meat to feed the household).

That reminds me of athe 4 coma strips with the demon king talking about how there are other universes (and showing the other manga versions of her) and then hero saying he wants her to switch out with one of the others cause she is useless.

He's making fun of the inconsistent animation. The two were seen from an angle where the boar should have been visible.

You're misinterpreting the scene. He's so fast and so powerful that in between cuts he teleported out, killed a boar, dragged it back, and then teleported back onto the log, all without breaking a sweat. He's that good.

... I made that up.

There's also an alluded span of time that was skipped between the acceptance of the sisters into the household, and that scene.

Spoiler for Comparison to the Kotowaru manga:

Spice and Wolf vs Maou

Let the inevitable Spice and Wolf comparisons begin, since I'm sure it was an influence on the author. S&W was a bit slow, but at least the economics talking points were less simplistic. The world left out cheap "dungeon crawling" fantasy tropes, and used the time to develop the ever-present church, and guild dynamics. In other words, rather than just playing with our expectations, S&W ran an original direction.

The male lead also had a rational mind, and if you read the book Holo wasn't just sexy (she was loli too), I mean, Holo had a distinct personality with multiple sides. She'd browbeat the protagonist, then turn dere. She'd act like a lazy spoiled princess, and then reveal she was scheming all along. Around other people she acts like an innocent nun.

Holo has more meat than Maō. Why are people still watching this show? Go read Spice and Wolf!

Already read S&W (the entire story and the manga in progress), seen all the animations, awaiting third season.

This will suffice in the meantime though your points are valid about it not quite hitting the same marks on the graph.

That's because S&W has a developed economy, functional government, and relatively enforced laws. S&W can go into detail of economics because their society is mature.

MaoYuu is not about teaching economics, but to BUILD economics. The characters are not trying to make money, but trying to redesign an entire society. They are changing the very world they are in. It's like the difference between being a trader of stocks (S&W), and being the person who created the stock market (MaoYuu).

You know, your comment is like saying Apples are better than Oranges . They’re both sweet but have their own merits. It's all up to taste. One is not necessarily better than the other, and it's certainly not the case of "either..or". Humans have this capability to love two different things at the same time, you know. For example, I'm a fan of both S&W and Maoyuu .

Leave aside the different ways both shows tackle the economy aspects, your assessment between Holo and Maou is unwarranted since you don't even know Maou. At the first two episodes Holo is not exactly deep either.

Bolded for emphasis. A major point of all the volumes is learning about Holo (and Lawrence) like unwrapping an onion one layer at a time.

It's like the old saying goes:

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for one night.
Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

... eh ... close enough.

Well from your statements I take it you have not followed this series in it's other forms of media. So far she hasn't even started dealing with economics yet. She has jump started Agriculture by a few centuries and this is only the start. Her goals are to take a place that is akin to 13th century Europe and tern it into something politically stable with no famine or plague and end a war that has gone on for a generation

Truthfully we don't have a good idea how much of a schemer Maou is as so far all the people she has interacted with are either a people she has no need to scam (her servants and hero) or she is trying to teach that many of the current beliefs are wrong.
