I think a bigger issue is the impression of OMK itself in the fighting game community, where it doesn't seem to be very popular or seen as competitively viable. This is a death knell to interest for most games. On the other hand, a game like Melty Blood was popular for a time even though a lot of its players didn't know anything about the source material.

So I could see the lack of interest not reflecting all that much on the popularity (or lack thereof) for Umineko itself, but for OMK as an actual fighter in particular.

Melty Blood became popular because it had good gameplay on par with the mainstream games back when it was first released. Not to say that OMK has bad gameplay, but from what I've heard of some of the most hardcore fighting games players, the game is too "stiff", making it harder to play. And I can atest to this too. Playing MB and then OMK, you can feel that the moves of the characters are more fluid in MB than in OMK. But that's also good because in OMK you have to actually KNOW how to fight, unlike in MB where you can win easily by flailing (I can also atest to this).

Melty blood was popular because it came out during a time where fighting games were stagnating and the game was competent enough. People played it because it was ok and they were tired of playing Third Strike and MVC2 for years.

OMK is lackluster as a fighter and it came out during a renaissance of the genre. There was just no reason to actually play the game unless you were a fan of the series. It also looks like the genre is going to dwindle again so making content updates for this would be even less likely.

Implying that it was a flop. I don't know about Umineko franchise being a failure in any way.
Okay, the anime got cancelled midway but apart from that I don't think that anything went wrong. Also I presonally think that Umineko is unique and great regardless the sales. But this is going slightly off topic

Just to note it, I still have unanswered questions on the previous page.

Oh yeah, for the diagonal commands (1, 3, 7 and 9) you have to press the two buttons. It was I who answered your question back then, sorry but when I said you didn't have to press buttons simultaniously I was talking about the A B and C commands, not the directional commands.

I'm sorry, I should have expressed myself better that time.

Yep, but I'm looking forward to it. The script is coming along very well.

Also, we've cleared this with Witch-Hunt as well; no one else has expressed interest until now.

We haven't officially announced it yet, but it'll be at our blog when it goes live.

The script is 75% done, and as seen above, implementation is go.

We can adjust the font, but close kerning aside, I kind of like it.

I'm hoping for announcement this weekend, but we'll see.

Awesome!
Will this patch work well with Cross or it will just break the game? Cause I think most people would have Ougon Cross installed rather than Vanilla Ougon.

Thanks for your time and your work.

My only complain is that you used "Siesta" instead of "Chiester" in your blog, but aside from that I'm happy.
