Yep, Yuki is the one with Desler, in the white dress. Yurisha (which seems to have been miraculously cured - maybe Dr. Sado had something to do with that ) is in the purple-ish body suit.

Huh? Since when were Tohru and Yuriya already in a relationship where she'd want to hug him? Based on their last interaction that we saw, I was under the impression that she still thought of him as some loyal puppy dog-type guy who followed her around everywhere.

The space suit is much welcome. Not only it ends the ridiculous "Desler standing in hard vacuum and still alive" thing, it actually makes look badass. If they resist the temptation to add a flowing cloak, i'll be happy

That is Yurisha, maybe she's a bit more friendly, being the odd "alien posessing young earth girl".

Seems this clip clears things up as to who those guys are. Now the question is... how did they get on the Yamato...? After seing this and knowing they're part of Domel's attack force... a crazy notion came to mind.

What if the drill missile is not just a missile but a troop insertion ship?They launch it, it disables the enemy main weapon and boars a nice little entry path for a group of assault troops, nicely stored in that room, inside the missile. That explains why such a thing exist in a missile and why it has a "reverse gear" at all. They send the missile with those Zaltz troops to retrieve the iscandarian and extract her before the ship is destroyed by the attack group. Yuki is part of the troops that fight the intruders off. Wen they see her they mistake her for Yurisha and grab her. Now, what i haven't yet fully drawn in my mind is wether they were supposed to get back to the missile, put it into reverse and fly away with their prize or if the missile is actually supposed to explode and they were supposed to use some other means to escape, like a Seagull (probably with an escaped Ito and Yabu aboard). XD They end up having to go to plan B when Analyzer and Niimi put the missile/drop ship into reverse and send it out into space. Whatever way they find to leave the Yamato, the mission seems to be successful (aside the fact they grab the wrong girl) as at least one of the infiltration team is seen escaping with Yuki in his arms and is later in Desler's ship with Yuki. This notion is crazy enough to be right...or at least close enough.

I know that's Yurisha talking, and nope, Yurisha says "Yuriya wants you to hug me as soon as you could," then she asks "What is 'gyu' (hug)?"

Hmm, now that I sort that out and put it into english, it sounds like Yuriya just wanted Tohru to hug Yurisha to comfort her, not so Yuriya could hug him.

And that is an interesting theory macdawson. Could give them a reason to have kept the drill missile in the show.

A question though:

Why are all of Dommel's top commanders on Gamilas? Where are their ships? I know Dommel's flagship is there, but what about the other commander's battlecruisers and their escorts?

They must have all come with him when he was ordered to return to the home world. They were only on Balun as part of his task force so with him back in Garmillas, what would they be left on Balun for?

But were are their ships? Did Dommel's Sixth Fleet stay at Balun with only his flagship returning to Gamilas? Did they all come home and when he was sentanced to death, they were relieved of command and their ships sent out with Zoelleck? He had his red battleship, four new battleships, and a large number of battlecruisers as escorts.

Also where is the elder Talan?

Being their ships were standard Meltorias, they're probably around, but since they'll take command of the carriers, there's no point in showing them. As for Ghader, he's probably busy trying to get the fleet back home. After all, with all the other members of staff standing around doing nothing except brown-nosing the Soto, someone's gotta work. XD Another possibility is that he's trying to find his boss, Admiral Ditz, and get him back home.

A thought. About the Gate network.

If I understand the network correctly, Balun was the only point to get from the Magallenic Clouds to the Milky Way.

But there is something else I noticed. The Gamilas have a large number of gates mapped on both sides of Balun. So the Gamilas could possibly have a large part of their empire already in the Milky Way Galaxy. The two halves of the Empire could still function without Balun, but it world be more effective with full access.

But...this also sets up for there to already be Gamilas forces in the heart of the Milky Way later on. The Galman Empire, protected from when the Comet Empire arrives again in the Magallenic Clouds.

The major consequence of the destruction of the Balun gate hub for Garmillas is that they've been cut off from the Milky Way Galaxy network. Even though both networks are still functional the connection between the two galaxies has been severed. They can use the gate network in the GMC to move around but any move towards the MWG will now require standard geschtam navigation to cross the intergalactic void. Something the Yamato will have to takle in the return trip. But given the tight schedule, that might be crossed in a relatively short time using warp navigation.

This whole warp gate story has effectively plugged two major plot holes, that i can see. One is the reason why Domel goes off with just a carrier group to face the Yamato, without escorts or backup, given ships are probably in short supply until the fleets make the longer trek from Balun. Another is that in the original, the Garmillas moved around a lot faster than the Yamato. Domel goes to Balun which is roughly 74.000 light years from Garmillas (84.000 by 2199 standards) in no time, returns to Garmillas after Balun is destroyed, is tried and sentenced, sent back to face the Yamato... this had to be the result of some super warp technology that was never shown (retconed here with the warp gates). Having Domel returned to Garmillas before the gate is destroyed has him in the right place to be sent out for the Rainbow Star Cluster. Well played, Mr. Izubuchi...well played.

I can see that bastard corrupting the principle of a peaceful power source like the WM Engine for military use and having the brains back on Earth create a WMD. What if Yurisha opposed that the WM technology be used like that and...Serizawa has her taken out with a bomb... She and Yuki survive but each with a set of problems, Yuki with her amnesia and Yurisha in a coma.

Farfetched perhaps but how awesome would that be?

I think you are quite correct in this regard.

Spoiler for The 10,000 Lost Ships & No Country for Old Men:

In the eight-minute preview for Episode 19, it seems that the ships given to Domel are manned by inexperienced boys and old men — since the best and brightest are slowly sailing home from Balun. I find this to be a brilliant conceit by Izubuchi; and it becomes incredibly touching when the Zaltz infiltration squad begin to sing the Gamilas National Anthem, and are joined in by Domel, and the crewmen of the assault fleet who are prepared to die for their empire. This is a nice bookend to the crew of the doomed Yukikaze in the first episode, and is far more genuinely touching than anything I've seen in any space opera I can recall. This is absolutely brilliant filmmaking — animated or otherwise. Bravo, Izubuchi. Bravo.

is by using that FS Torpedo Boat we see attached to the UX-01, given they seem to be assigned to Fraken. They approach the Yamato, submerged in the dimensional boundry layer, surface, launch the tiny ship (much like one of those rescue subs that attaches to subs in trouble). Inside the Rainbow Star Cluster, provided they keep it's characteristic intact, the Yamato won't be abble to detect them surfacing and aproaching the ship. This is probably more plausible than my "drill missile is a drop ship" concept, though that would provide some proper explanations for the use of the missile and some of it's design quirks. It can also be a bit of both. They invade using the missile and retreat using the FS Boat...

This theory also sounds good. It is also a little bit more plausible than the Drill Missile-theory in my opinion. The next question is off course how the got the Cosmo Navy uniforms. I think they simply stole them from cabins or locker rooms.

Lets remember that the Yamato IS an exoticly hard nut to crack with the wave motion shielding. It's entirley possible the drill has some special properties about it that make it effective at penetrating it.

After the assault from the fighters, I don't think the wave motion shields will be any problem.
