In need or recommndation (flatpanel monitor)

So which is better?

Acer Black Widescreen LCD Monitor 20"

Hanns·G HW-191DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

Never mind about the price: which one has the better specs and will give me the best picture quality?

The specs are almost the same. I would go the bigger the better. SO I would go for Acer Black Widescreen LCD Monitor 20".

Pity that I can't find any 20" LCD in the local stores for $180.

For the Acer, it is just a ten more dollars down for an extra inch screen size.
I will go with the Acer screen.

Personally I go for ViewSonic every time <- fanboy attack sorry!!!

*Edit*

And now for a sensible reply

The Acer has a better contrast ratio and more screen size. Everything else is comparable.... At my old work place we got in a bunch of Acer LCDs and they are still going strong, but I can't say for this model. Best google for model names and people complaining.

For the difference in price I would go Acer.

Me too... lol... anyway...

Resolution :
ACER : WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)
Hanns·G : WXGA+ (1440 x 900)
» ACER Wins...

Contrast Ratio :
ACER : 800:1
Hanns·G : 700:1
» ACER Wins...

But Hanns·G has it own speakers...

Anyway, i'd choose ACER, for only additional 10$ you got bigger screen with higher resolution and contrast ratio...

I have that exact monitor. In fact I am using it right now.

I've had no problems with it and no dead pixels. In fact I am buying another for my mom tomorrow.

No built in speakers can be a blessing. I normally end up not using mine, so I have these magnetic devices taking up real estate and prbly sucking up power for no reason

I dislike built in speakers for several reasons.

They add extra cost to the monitor
They suck, unless you listen to no music at all, they're very useless.

Go for the biggest one you can get. Its all the same for lcd monitors anyways. Just read the user comments for common issues like color bleeding and lack of brightness.

fanboy rant:

I'd never replace my mitsubishi diamond pro crt. This thing is made of pure win. And can reach insane insane resolutions (I can't click the max res since my laptop is doesn't support anything above 1920x1200 >,>)

The shipping company will take utmost care for your package (since you paid for it ). Usually there are return policies if there are defects in the product.

For Newegg, yes, they use FedEx.

FedEx = expensive

For within the U.S., you can use UPS standard. I think Newegg ships it using its regular box so those shipping people can actually tell that its fragile.

If you can find it a local retail store, buy it there. Newegg's monitor/TV return policy is pretty bad.

Why not go for the BenQ FP202W @ $190 instead? It's listed as an 8-bit panel, has better contrast ratio, and the same response time. Also the customer reviews are really good for it. It doesn't seem to come with a DVI cable, though. If you're into very good manueverbility for your LCD, the Samsung 204BW has a great stand, but is a 6-bit panel.

Since prices between 19" and 20" right now are so close, always choose the 20" because it has both greater screen real estate and dpi count.

Where in Asia are you in? Chances are it might be cheaper buying it locally if you are buying asian brands like Samsung.. etc etc.

There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return.
As you can see, it's pretty much "as is." You buy it, you got it.

Newegg is good on everything else, but not displays.
