Well let me join in as well... WADAFUQ? I'm not even gonna try and understand what the plot is right now.
As for characters, it's Sasami herself that is most perplexing. On one hand, she gets mad at her brother for giving away her valentines choco (to the point that she tried to go outside), and obviously is displeased that it was Tsurugi who gave her nii-chan his first valentines choco. On the other, she seems disgusted about her brother's delusions of her, and rebukes his advances every step of the way. Weird...

I kinda 'get' the show, I just need specifics so things can be put in their proper places. At least for me SHAFT is one of the few studios who can still make something that's unique and interesting. I find most other shows a pain to get through. I like the art, I like the music (op/ed/ost), I think the characters are fun. It's unorthodox, sure, but it's stimulating and pleasing both visually and mentally.
Shaft is like the Autechre of electronic music, it's weird, it seems random/messy at first but it's finely structured and constructed together. It sways people away because frankly things that make one say " what the _?_" after the experience isn't ideal for most. Although it's still too early to judge the show entirely Sasamisan doesn't disappoint (I'm going to re-watch when I get home).

Shaft put out their A game on this one. I'm not sure what I just watched but I liked it. The beginning was exactly what I expected: a comedy featuring a pampered hikkikomori little sister being taken care of by her incestuous brother... then all of a sudden, the world turns into chocolate and we get an absolutely crazy action sequence. WHAT? At first I thought it was Sasami losing it, but it looks like everything really happened. I have no idea where this show is heading.

I had to constantly remind a friend that the blonde IS 9 years old.
This episode totally cracked me up. Onii-chan is my favorite character of the show. And suddenly, CHOCAPIC! |

This show is very Shinbo, loved the Madoka Witch effect when Sasami went outside, I have to wonder if her brother does and says those things, to provoke her into leaving the house. Seems like we have a bit of a Haruhi thing going with Sasami subconsciously altering the world

Sasami 01 - The Battle for Fudge Mountain
Kana Asumi starring in a Shaft show. That feels just right. I was interested in this one because of the pedigree of the author and the animators, and this combination looks to be producing something really interesting. I never once felt lost, because enough was implied through the events that the course of the series is mostly clear. Having Kyoko and Homura out in the field again was really nice - the entire second half of the episode was rendered like a Hershey's commercial, and just a lot of fun to watch. Further proof that even though Shaft may have more money, they're still fighting against time, and their house style has never really faded. If every episode ends up like this one, I may end up enjoying this one quite a lot. |

Actually, I think it's her brother who has the powers. The change started happening after he got excited over Valentine and he was the only one who didn't turn into chocolate (nor was he attacked). He was also doing the Hare Hare Yukai dance at some point, possibly hinting he is the new Haruhi.

EDIT: I should specify, the only bit about that that came from preview information was the bit about Sasami and Amaterasu. All the rest is entirely information either I or other viewers gleaned from this episode.

Wait?? Is this SHAFT's work??
Is this the SHAFT that until 2 years ago still give us an uncolored opening / slideshow for us?? This SHAFT giving us that animation on first episode?? O.o Oh, Shinbo must be high on drugs right now... And one favourite scene, love that substitution of every noun with choco... |
