@sa547: you're welcome.

While I do find this project interesting. With all do respect to this project, I don't quite see the purpose of this anime at least form the side of AKB48. The fact is that they are now by far the most popular music group in Japanmeans they don't need the anime to attract new fanbase not to mention their original/home fan base is the otaku crowd in Akihabara with many members are well known for being regular manga reader and some even self-proclaiming as otaku.

On the other hand, anime industry could get some sort of boost from being directly associated with AKB48 considering the Akiba connection is more tied toward manga and games sides of ACG world.

My thoughts on that is that they want to take it to an international audience, starting with the overseas anime fans. They can consider it mission accomplished if the exposure gets them new fans.

That is actually an interesting thought, AKB48's way of going international outside of East Asia. (they already have tons of fans in surrounding countries.)

God knows, considering the strings AKB48's influence can probably pull.

They have more than enough bank for its honcho to dare himself to go further, and apart from this show, already their new Singapore satellite base is one of the signs of possible global expansion of the franchise (or at least within East Asia).

So, they are going to be singing and fighting.......Moeblob Macross?

Bleh, was hoping the AKB49 manga to get animated.

Read closely, especially this translation of Kawamori's comment by a friend:

Quote:

I am thinking of fusing the latest CG technology with the "professional spirits" of those idols into a traditional animation that Japan prides herself on, and delivering to the whole world a touching work in which there are laughters, tears and dances and raise the spirit of everyone.

I plan to express the subtle expression and feelings of those girls by undergoing them via deformation process with warmth that can only be made by hand-drawn animation. I want to come up with a high quality video work that is dynamic and speedy while the girls' individual character will also come out.

The story will also be thoroughly original. It will be a tale that is fresh and can be enjoyed by everybody.

Please stay tuned to find out how the AKB48 members and the story will get involved with each other.
As for that superb AKB49 manga (it's still ongoing, BTW), let's just hope it could also be picked up and turned into a show.

^ Judging from Kawamori's post, they're investing a LOT of cash on AKB48's performances in the anime series. I hope that it doesn't end up with reusing frames unnecessarily.

True, and I think he's very well aware of such criticism and would like not to repeat it again. I'm also sure this show will be getting a production budget several times massive than the total cost for Macross Frontier (and perhaps even the whole Macross franchise itself), more than enough to cover a lot of details.

Basically, Satelite could be getting a blank check.

It's certainly selling well enough to get an anime one day, and of course once it gets an anime that will increase the sales of the manga.... hopefully towards the end of next year or 2013 we get an adaption of AKB49....

Urg, Kawamori's in? That could be a problem for me, as I don't think he has done anything decent in the recent years....

To be fair, he hasn't had a huge project for 3 years other than BASQUASH, but before that was Macross Frontier so it's not like he has a string of failures. Not to mention he is teaming up with Mari Okada a well-know screen-play writer who just come of two successful projects in AnoHana and HanaSaku and Yoshimasa Hiraike who's last two projects Working! and Amagami SS are also both critically acclaimed and commercially successful.

I don't know why I missed it, but Mayu Watanabe is apparently playing two roles, herself and one the 9 main character. Though, with her being by far the most popular of the 9 (overall ranking 4/5/5), me bet is that she gets the main role unless Akimoto is thinking about pushing someone else and Mayu's other appearances are too busy for her to take the lead role.
