I think the meaning of the rants in the beginning is that it's the little insignificant/trivial things in life that upset people the most. Whining all about nothing. and in Itoshiki's case, he'd be so upset by something small and stupid like that that he'd kill himself.

Dunno if this is off topic.

I've been reading some blogs and I noticed them mentioning something about Zetsubou Sensei's mangaka, Kumeta Koji constantly poking fun at Akamatsu Ken of Love Hina and Negima fame in the latest Zetsubou Sensei chapters, and Akamatsu duly returned the favour in the Negima installments.

Do these two have some sort of "healthy" rivalry going on? Is there someone who can shed light on this intriguing subject?

The main one that comes to mind when it comes to Ken Akamatsu's retaliation is in chapter 183 of Negima, in which a Zetsubou Sensei doujin appears during a bit set at Comiket.

I don't know what their relationships are like. But Kumeka's manga often refers to Akamatsu's.

So, after reading your comments, I decided to see episode 4 again. Wow, that's a scary maniac we have there. And I noticed the .25 second long Love Hina reference while they were doing the dance of evil messages.

I guess this is a simple pun or reference and doesn't have any deep meanings. At the start of the latter half of episode 5, right after Kafuka says to Zetsubou-sensei, "We came to here to detox," he repeats the word "detox," having a puzzeled look on his face. There, you can see a funny shaped logo "でとっくす？" ( which can read "detokkusu") behind him. The style of the logo seems a parody of that of a PC game "Happiness Deluxe." Just for your information.

This is probably one of the best series i watched so far (well Rozen Maiden is still the best)

Gah, I just love this show. ^^
It's so interesting and it makes you wondering what the heck'll happen next. I've watched episodes 1-4 so far. I'm really looking forward to the 5th one. Although, it's kind of upsetting how Zetsubou-sensei doesn't show up as much. It mainly focuses on the students...oh well, I still really like this series. ^^
