What is the purpose behind Ioryogi giving Kobato points? Isn't it enough that she fills up her bottle? Does she also have to reach some numeric score as well?

In the manga it took Kobato a lot longer to get the bottle and the numbers reflected how much closer (or farther away!) she got each day. I guess that even thought they cut out most of the bottle earning scenes they still wanting to include more of Ioryogi's Kobato abuse.

Yeah, though i like how they're keeping them in. & it does help encourage Kobato to do better i guess.

For some reason I was expecting collective asses to get beaten when the loan sharka came. Still, damn brave of Kobato to stand up to them despite the fact her hands were shaking like crazy. I get it that this is probably her first time to see the darker side of this humanity's society.

In contrast, that was a sad but poignant story of the author. The animation for the field lighting up with fireflies shows that Madhouse still has it when it counts.

About the ED, but itsn't it supposed to like reflect the amount of candy/whatever she has during the credits? IIIRC she should have three but I only see two. Also on the preview... lolwut? Animals humanoids?

Wow... episode 5 was beautiful. I had tears in my eyes. The book gave me more Chobits flashbacks of Chii reading her picture book.

Kobato should get 1,000 points for standing up to the gangsters.

I giggled that at the most logical point in the entire episode for Kobato to trip (when the gangster releases her hair) she actually caught herself! And kudos to Ioryogi for doing his part as well, and the kid, so much smarter than anything I thought of as a kid.

And next episode we'll meet more of the manga main characters, probably for the best that we get some manga material and some new stuff in each episode.

There isn't a title for it yet, so you won't find it. Hopefully it'll appear on the first soundtrack, whenever that's released.

Yep it is indeed beautiful. I posted a hi-res version of it in this thread, before the anime aired. Go look for it, because it's worth it.

I hope we get more anime original ones like this in the future, because before this episode i've been a bit meh about them, though this episode has turned that around. Very good story telling. It's expected to have these kinds of sweet stories in a series such as thing, and it's a shame the manga never really has them, though instead it just sticks with the main plot. Funny enough, the story in this episode is what you'd usually find in xxxHolic. Speaking of main story, it was a good idea to start the loan story already with the phone call, and the gang turning up at the school. Both are manga material scenes, and played out pretty much the same. The story could easily be stretched out a bit, and i expect that to happen. The score for the show hasn't really made me go wow, though the pieces used during the flashback, and the fireflies scenes did just that. Very touching pieces, and i hope we have more just like that in the future. In the preview for episode 06 we see Ginsei! Can't wait to hear him voiced by Namikawa Daisuke. __________________ MyAnimeList Twitter
