I doubt Eren is permanently dead. There is still the key and what his father left in the basement that needs to be discovered. He might have lost a leg and an arm, but he can still cut the vulnerable neck earlier inside the titan. Heck, it might be even easier.

Phenomenal episode. My amazement stems not from the ending, but the presentation leading up to it. The beginning has Eren actually holding his ground against the baddest of the bad, and definitely brings hope that "this time will be different, for sure." The utter downfall of his squad afterwards is reality punching you hard in the face consecutive times.
Also, as an anime-only viewer I have no idea which parts have been censored and as a result it seems I'm enjoying it that much more? Definitely no complaints here, I find the action to be top-notch. Though I do question the proportions of the massive titan in the beginning. I'm lead to believe he's of standard human proportions, just multiplied a whole lot, yet there're some shots where his head seems absolutely TINY.

Damn...they got destroyed!
I was not expecting that, not at all. With all the build up, the training episodes, the seriousness of the MC, I thought they would have at least put up a fight, but that was thrown out the window as soon as those mini Titans walked through their front door. I was genuinely surprised at how poorly they fought back against them, as if they were flies being swatted by them. I sure do hope they pull through next episode XD

^ That's exactly why they've shown the utter slaughter back in episode 1 with that reckon platoon
I'm quite pleased to see that they've kept everything intact, yet maintained a good pacing AND added original stuff in there. I can't blame them for the "censoring", although they didn't have to resort to black screen and whatnot, and I think it was enough to plainly state how the human side is nearly helpless facing the titans. Lambs to slaughter, literally.

This is what defines Shingeki no Kyojin: those cruel reality checks that can't be found in any stereotypical shonen anime. Cliches and tropes that we usually see get horribly twisted and subverted. The slightest mistake makes the most deadly consequence. A perfect example of Murphy's law.
I find it definitely ironic that Eren spent 3 episodes training, only to get eaten the very next episode. That's why I like how the anime used the chronological order of events, since the manga confused me the first time. |

Alright... i have a little mixed feelings about this.
Spoiler for Comparison to the manga:
This was a episode heavy with information. Finally we hear more about the titans, like that the back of their neck is the weak spot. And that they can regenerate, thats why cannons arent too effective. Interesting point that the titans also do not need to eat humans.. we are more like chew toys to them i guess. After seeing the hard life of the common people in the first four episodes its difficult to watch how the people of the privileged gorge themselves. Eren and co got only weak soup looking thing and bread for daily food... and the soldier are supposed to be strong with weak food like that? Tsk.. We already talked about this in episode 4 but it really looks like the elite soldiers go towards the inner city to look after the people while the other soldiers go towards hell themselves. Mikasa didnt want to leave Erin alone though, she didnt want to be separated... "Please... dont die Eren" T_T So the spot for the MC is open... any takers? *looks at Mikasa* xDDD Anyway i have only one picture to share with you guys... Ugh, i never thought that this episode would feel very dark, and utterly dark. Heck, after all those training session, building up their skill, the soldiers in the end only got swatted like flies.
And WTF with Eren!? It's his first debut and he got eaten right away!? That's too damn fast, dammit! |

I really wish I read the manga. This episode was the complete opposite of what I originally thought it would. The MC is dead along with nearly all of his squad. So Mikasa should be the new MC now? I really did not see any of this coming.
