First episode is out on Amazon.
Not going to lie, I think it was really average and I struggled to stay awake for this show. The animation quality is mediocre too in terms of production visuals. Haruto made a promise to one of the main girls and the plot develops from there. There's some harem-esque vibes I sense from the series already. (it's very obvious that Satsuki likes him) Action is slightly better than I had expected but nothing really outstanding. Haruto is also an incredibly one dimensional character so far imo. That ending though....

Blatant copy of Ano Hana. We've got expies of Jintan (Amo), Menma (Asahi), Anaru (Satsuki), Yukiatsu (Takanori), and I wouldn't be surprised if Nozomi turned out to be like Tsuruko. Heck, their colour scheme pretty much matches as well; how the hell did the author get away with this lol.
And you know what? I don't care. I love Ano Hana so much that seeing an MMO version of it makes me giddy. Is it going to be anime of the cour? Highly unlikely, since Hi Score Girl airs this season as well, but I had tons of fun with the pilot regardless.

Ano Hana was really good so I can see it working regardless. But at least the first episode didn't really wow me. Just a reminder that I should just go back and rewatch Ano Hana really . Maybe the most unbelievable thing is the lack of mass protest about a game that arbitrarily refuses to let people play it. Free to Play is fine and all, but a system that scans you for a 'sense' and only allows you to play if you have this arbitrary trait. Forget the girl dying leading to the service shutting down, that kind of exclusive policy would be a death sentence.

Another Subaru huh? ...When will Honda and Suzuki get the spotlight?
It's fairly average with rather mediocre animation but eh, first ep and I am a sucker for the isekai genre, so I'm sticking around I guess.

I was being reminded more about SAO as soon as the death in the game translated to a death irl.

But presuming these traits they can scan for actually have some meaning to them then it could work on a sinister level. Track down players with rare traits and then kidnap or perhaps drain their brain into a digital mainframe for experimentation or to somehow use them.

I was wondering which site would get it. Skimmed through the episode, pretty boring and generic. The art is ok at best, I'm slightly curious about the rest of the story, but it would probably be a better use of time to get around to watching Anohana, its just that yet another MMO anime is a bit closer to my interests than Anohana is (and easier to rush through).
Everything about that game screams evil conspiracy though- free game that scans you for something, with better players going to HQ? Um, yeah, trap. If I watch more, just hope the characters get better- its not exactly good storytelling to spend the first five minutes hyping up the main characters, then the last five minutes are spent with idiotic jerks. |

The anime is alright. It's really Anohana meets SAO, but it's not too terrible. I agree with a lot of the comments, especially in terms of its plot. But so far, Asahi and maybe Haruto looks to be my favourites, so I might stick for them. I'm still not sold on it, so I'll go by my standard 3 episode rule and see what happens before I make my last judgement.
I just got to say though, wouldn't someone find a virtual game with an account permadeath rule suspicious? I don't think I would sign up with one, if it had that feature and offering an exec job as a prize would really set off alarm bells for me. Last edited by PhoenixRising; 2018-07-06 at 10:18. |
