In the old thread, I also thought of the possibility of another girl.
But as I rewatched the episodes, I realised that the girl Hiroki likes in the flashback is probably Kiri herself.

It was speculated that Hiroki, Kiri and Yanagi(the guy mentioned by Kiri in episode 2) were involved in a love triangle. Hiroki supposedly backed out, as he thought there was a better person(probably Yanagi) for Kiri.

It was also suggested in the old thread that Hiroki stopped drawing so that Yanagi's art would stand out more.

Well anyways, let's just wait for the guy to show up.
He has to.
I mean, he had a better character design than Shouta.

Episode 12 was brilliant

Not much drama, but this episode has made me like Elis SO much more. I like her so much better when she isn't sad, bratty, or "onee-chan"-ish. Someone said that the Elis shown in the previews every episode is the more enjoyable Elis. I agree, and the "happy, talking preview Elis" was evident in the way Elis performed during episode 12.

I also like Hiroki more, now. His character design and voice actor originally tricked me into thinking he's a generic shounen romance anime lead. His personality has proved otherwise, and he has become one of my favourite "bishoujo/many girls" series leads this year, since Yukito from AIR. Why couldn't they just give him a unique design? Same with Shouta. IS IT THAT DIFFICULT?

Or perhaps it's to do with the whole "random japanese otaku can place himself in the main lead's shoes" thing.

I like Elis MUCH better than Kiri now, but I still can't see Elis in a way other than Hiroki's little "sister". What is the age gap between them?

I am also looking forward to the next episode. Going by the preview, it looks like Hiroki and Kiri's past will be unveiled. And with the whole "triangle" thing in the title, there's a huge possibility that the other guy who liked Kiri will make his appearance? This will stir things up and make the anime go into "drama mode".

Argh, why do I like Canvas 2 so much? I usually DETEST this type of anime. Shuffle was extremely boring for me. Canvas 2's episodes are similar to Shuffle's earlier, "happy" episodes but I think Canvas 2 pulls it off better.

Ep 12 wasnt too shabby... i just thought the kid was kinda random. Liked the bonding they had and I'm glad that they isnt that huge weirdness with them.

Watching the episode, I felt like it was quite the opposite. Throughout their adventure, seeing how Hiroki interacted with Haruna, and how it brought back memories of how Hiroki was with her when she was that age, I felt like it was Elis who was beginning to see Hiroki differently.

I thought the beautiful view from atop the steps was very fitting and reaffirmed this idea, as was Elis saying, "Release the princess' imprisoned soul." Hiroki spoke of her as being a princess a scene earlier, and to me, it was herself she was speaking about in this scene. I think this is why Hiroki and Elis were able to go back to being so comfortable with each other again and why she was able to say, at the end, "I'm... all right now."

It's also worth nothing that Hiroki drew something again in this episode!

At least temporarily, the relationship between Hiroki and Elis will go back to normal while we focus on what, to me, might be the most important story arc so far, which is the true nature of Hiroki's relationship with Kiri (and how it might evolve) and whomever else might be involved--the dreaded "much better person for her" (from Episode 7).

I can't wait to see! Now that Suzuka and Shuffle! are wrapping up, I'm 100% behind Canvas 2 (and Kiri!).

Very interesting... i too felt that it was hiroki's view on elis that changed but your thoughts intrigue me. I didnt think of the whole princess thing as anything important but the more i think about it the more sense it makes. Nice job!

Since Suzuka and Shuffle! are almost over i too, I am all about Kiri!

He didn't actually liked any other girl, in fact it was Kiri he liked. The only reason why he said that, was not to hurt his best friend's feelings as he too was in love with her.

This is just a guess, but it seems quite the most logical one. I came up with the conclusion due to the manga and by piecing things from the anime.

This could be due to the reason a certain someone found out about Hiroki's true feelings.

The impression I gained from the anime is that Hiroki turned down Kiri because he didn't feel he was good enough for her. I'm sure I saw something like that mentioned at one stage. So it may be that the person he thought was better was this other guy. Interesting.

All my comments regarding Kiri's and Hiroki's relationship and that 3rd friend were lost in the forum hack, so I'm wiped about re typing it all again...(still wonder how relentlessflame managed to fill the DCSS thread with words...words!! lol)

*sigh*...thinking about it, all my nosebleeds, all my laughter, all my moe melts,...all gone...further fuels my anti-hacking stance.

Although I had wished they had shown more of the manga chapters, this is the anime adaption of Canvas 2 so I'm content with the difference the manga has against the anime. And bad Hiroki, just because it's a manga doesn't mean you can smoke ....

Hmm.. That's a new way of looking at things. I remember in one earlier episode, where Kiri and Hiroki go to the super market, and Kiri asks Hiroki if he kept in touch with "someone" whose name at the moment is eluding me. Kiri also mentions that certain someone is doing well as an artist. Hiroki avoided a response and sort of muttered to himself. Now, that scene seems to fall into place which also provides fresh perception on Hiroki's character. Looks like the story is going to be pretty interesting soon.

Heh... yes, I do wonder where that motivation came from... And yeah, given the time I wasted... err... invested in that thread, it did make me regret not having taken a personal backup. I'm definitely still a bit bitter towards Aisi-- that hacker for resetting things. Anyway... now that my anime slate is starting to clear up, I'll probably catch up on this show... but I don't know that you'll ever see me write that much about a show again...

I think someone mentioned that it's gonna be 26 episodes.

You mentioning that has drawn my attention to the titles for future episodes...It looks like there is a lot to look forward to in Canvas 2 next year!

Yep it's first mentioned in ep 2 when Hiroki and Kiri went shopping after school. Just before a special 100 Yen sale was announced Kiri asked Hiroki about a certain Yanagi if he had kept in touch with that person, and about a certain award that Yanagi received and how he became a great artist.

Indeed, there are many hints in that direction. The last one being Shouko ("Uncle and auntie were worried about your carreer path", "if I make it sound bad, you're very indecisive"), where Hiroki does not react as if he's pleased by these statements

I've been following this series in the background during all our handbag fights over Shuffle!
I love the way it started up (serious then slipping in comedy) rather than the "usual way". I also like the notion it isn't strictly a "harem" so much as a group of people (more like Honey & Clover) with overlapping stories.
Looks like we're going to get overlapping triangles of tension though ... o the humanity

Speaking of Hagino, does anyone know if she and Hiroki (and maybe Kiri too) were acquainted with each other before he came to the school? I was skimming back through the first few episodes trying to refresh my memory on a couple of items, and it really struck me how casual they are with each other early on. Much more so that with any of the other students. Maybe it is just her personality, but the usual anime opposite-sex reserve seemed to be missing entirely.

I've liked what they've done with Elise thus far - now bring on the Kiri arc!

This is what it currently looks like:
In the past, both Kiri and Hiroki liked eachother. Kiri confessed to Hiroki. However, Hiroki turns Kiri down not because he doesn't like her, but because his best friend was also interested in her. What I'm wondering is how his friend Yanagi returning will affect the current "triangle" with Kiri, Hiroki and Elise.

Kiri ending idea:
*A wedge will be created between Kiri and Hiroki by Yanagi's appearance. Yanagi still likes Kiri, so Kiri and Yanagi end up together, while Kiri and Hiroki aren't speaking. Elis and Hiroki grow closer, but then a further revelation about Yanagi, Kiri and Hiroki's past will lead to a Hiroki + Kiri ending.

Elis ending idea:
*My memory's a bit hazy, but didn't Hiroki mention that Elis inspired him to be an artist? Well, Yanagi's appearance will most likely reveal why Hiroki stopped being an artist (probably because Hiroki was so heartbroken over the fact that he rejected Kiri? *shrugs*) and Elis will, yet again, inspire Hiroki to pick up drawing again. Then they fall in love or something.

These sound silly, I know, but tell me what you think. Also, to those who have read the manga, can you tell me what Yanagi's role in that is?
