CelestiaLegends people have their aim sn's in there profile already if they want them known. Why ask for everyone to post theirs when you can simply look up their sn and IM them?

I have no problem with people sparking interest in communication outside the forum. I have no problem with you all wanting to "meet up" be it on AIM, MSN, ICQ or better still our IRC channel that people have mentioned. I have no problem with this being "arranged" initially in this thread.

However -- there is no point in a thread where members simply post their AIM screen name. If they don't mind being contacted members will put the details on their profile. No details means they probably don't want to be contacted using that method!

Threads like that should have died out when forum software (like this one) started adding AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc. contact details to profiles. If you want to talk to someone on AIM then use the (

) icon next to each post or on their profile. Same for the other contact methods... In fact the only one method of note I can think of -- that this forum doesn't support -- is Jabber. Even then you can still use the other profile fields.

I am going to leave the thread open -- please if you want to post, post something constructive or interesting, not simply a repeat of your profile. I think it will be interesting to see if this thread's continued existance can be justified.

What is Jabber, and why is it better than AIM/MSN/ICQ/(insert three letter acronym here)? I only use AIM because that's what all my friends are on. Wouldn't make much sense to use a different messenging service if I have no one on there to talk to

Jabber is an open-source messaging network, so you can use any number of different clients on it. There are a whole bunch to choose from, ranging from easy to functional, and none of them have advertising like the commercial clients do. Most people I know I use AIM so I have an AIM account, though I have accounts for AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, and Jabber. I use GAIM so I can log onto all of them at the same time from one client.
