Yea the first voice that through me off was Soul's (I think that was his name). I was like ok he's going to have this young boy sounding voice, and it ended up being wayyyy different. After I got used to it, it seemed to fit ok.

But yea Maka seemed a bit off. The longer the episode went on the more I noticed it. It's not cringe worthy, but the voice was not the ideal choice imo.

When she first appeared, i'll admit i was a bit "eh" regarding her voice, though once the episode kicked in i didn't have any complaints. I think there's going to be a good number of seiyuu's they could have chosen for the role, though i don't have any problem with the one they went with. Good role for a newcomeer.

what happened in the new previews? I havent been able to find it yet.
I assume it's just stuff from the other two intro chapters and maybe the start of the storyline, but I'm just curious about what was actually shown.

Well wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this series, but turned out alright for a first episode. The Maka voice did seem a bit...well something, but got used to it as the episode went along.

Well knew things weren't going to go well the moment I found out they were that close to getting all the souls they needed. Didn't expect the witch to turn out as a cat with a lot of magical power. Oh well you live and learn I guess .

I think a lot of us are used to hearing a sweet/melodic/clear(?) voice when we see anime girl. For me however the voice for Maaka is really good, it has something special (maybe the rawness?) that fits the eerie mood of the show imho.
I also think that this kind of voice is rather commonly heard in real world, not too much exaggerated like some anime voice tend to be....

If episode 1 had no additions to it I can think of maybe 2-3 episodes (nased on the 23 chapters and 3 one shots I've read) that would have added stuff in the uncut version... maybe anime original episodes would have more to do with it...

Ok
What the fuck

When I read about everyone complaining about Maka's voice, I was a bit disappointed.
I watched the first episode of Soul Eater
It wasn't bad at all
It might be because I had low expectations of her voice or I might genuinely feel that it suits her but
It really isn't that bad

Now for the episode, I think everyone agrees the animation is superb. The style is different from anime we've been seeing recently.

Soul Eater is awesome

Tone wise. I really like the way her voice sounds. As others noted, it feels edgy and raw, and not that school girl high pitched fluff we expect to hear.

If she can improve a bit on her reading of lines, then I'm totally for it. I got used to her in the episode though regardless.

Love Maka's VA, but she just needs to put more emphasis on lines where its needed to be like screaming or being suprised. It seems kind of flat, but she sounds really good in the preview.

I'm normally not a fan of shounen, and what's killing this show for me is Maka's dad

Maka's dad just infuriated me with his childish, over the top actions

Shinigami-sama is a little too silly, but if he appears less often then that's ok

on the plus side, I love this show's art style (reminds me of The World Ends With You) and liked Maka and Soul Eater

do you normal shounen fans like Shinigami-sama and Maka's dad?

I was hoping that Shinigami-sama had a deeper voice. >_< But he's cool.

I agree that Maka's dad is a bit annoying but it's not that important to me.
He'll be important later on anyways

I think that Shinigami-sama is a really cool and grotesque character + his voice =

Yep. Conflicting opinions make this series more interesting. Don't you think?

I like all the voice. Maka can improve with time.

Hopefully, the ducks and bottles will be removed in the DVD version.

I wouldn't go so far as to say i hate the characters, they just add some good humor into the series now and then. They produce the level of humor you do see pretty often in shounen shows, so i guess i've just grown used to them over the many years.
