You know it would really be nice if they could listen to the fans for once and give in to our demands...
I mean tell me that a english translation company that works on Japanese PC games like Higurashi or Umineko for instance wouldn't make a good living? But...aren't we getting off topic a bit? O_O |

It just plain stinks.
I mean why can't they be on the shelves of stores like Gamestop and such like any ordinary PC game? It would be the coolest thing in the world. And also to tell you the truth, I haven't heard of any of the companys you guys have mentioned... O_O |

If their games were put in the shelves where PC games went, they would have had a better chance of getting noticed and sold, because a wide group of people, not just anime fans, frequent the video game section. If a copy of Ever 17 stood in the midst of all those bloody first-person shooters and action games, there's a good chance it'll stand out and attract the curiosity of people who haven't gotten into anime. I heard somewhere that one Best Buy store experimented with moving their copies of Ever 17 into the PC section. The result? All 1200 copies (or 1500, I can't remember) of the game they had in stock were sold in a single weekend. If Hirameki did this from the very beginning with all their titles, they'd still be alive and kicking. I think Hirameki was also fearful that anime fans wouldn't notice their products if they didn't place them in the anime DVD sections. Obviously, they failed to realize that many anime fans also happen to be gamers. VN's don't sell 'cause it's a niche market? Dude, they just need to market them properly. Put them in the PC section of B&M stores. Get them on the shelves of dedicated video game stores like Gamestop. Offer them for download on XBLA, PSN, or Steam. The companies need to get their product where they can be noticed. Last edited by grgspunk; 2008-08-06 at 00:33. |

Well that is a game that didn't start on the PC but right on the DS. They have some or possibly alot of novely-like games out on the shelves right now. Phoenix Wright just happens to be a bit more popular than the other ones, being with Capcom and all.
There is a new Visual Novel coming out on the DS soon that hopefully would be good, I'll list it here maybe tomorrow or after I am away on Vacation. |

hey forum goers. Last month i sent Funimation an email asking that if they were to license season 2, would they keep continuity. The response i got was a little off.
To whom it may concern: Thank you for your email. Our partnership with Geneon is simply to market and distribute a select group of titles on its behalf. Geneon will continue to handle the production of all of its series. Best regards, Doreen Feedback Manager FUNimation Entertainment I thought Geneon was done licensing stuff? |

You'll never get a response worth your time when you contact companies like that, for a most part, assuming you even get a response at all.
Phoenix Wright did not actually start out on the DS, but the Gameboy. Nonetheless, it's a fairly good example that Visual Novels can sell well in the US, though it does have gameplay. |

FINALLY. At least they finished the crappy dubs for season 1. That was just torture trying to turn dub-watchers on to Higurashi without a full season (if you stop people halfway, they lose interest).
