Man, I can't thank you translators enough. This is an incredibly massive undertaking, and I have absolutely no clue what motivates you guys other than sheer altruism. Bravo!
Though I haven't read any of the novels of Bakemonogatari yet, I'm currently in the process of learning Japanese so that I'll, hopefully, be able to read light novels like Baky in the next 2 or 3 years. |

Dramaturgie. Episode. Guillotinecutter. Those are the names of the people who took Kissshot’s body parts away---something like that. At least, Kissshot heard about these three people’s features from somewhere-although like this, it is still hard to understand with just this. Like using a different country’s language to explain, I felt confused towards those three names, but with the important stuff, they were too easy. The man called Dramaturgie stole her right leg. The man called Episode stole her left leg. The man called Guillotinecutter stole her arms. The three people each stole a part. That’s why she was in such a near-death situation---such a near-death situation, if she didn’t suck my blood, she would certainly die. Although it’s an immortal body. But it will still die. Towards this point she herself understands the best. Her at that time---already had the determination to die. Life still here, using this beaten-up body and escaping from those three people----uneasily escaped. “Why----“ I, during her explanation, inadvertently asked. “Why steal your limbs?” “I’m a vampire. Basically, although you are a vampire you are very weak?” “No!” Got her mad. Because of this--- I started walking around the small town at night. This was a bit after the sun had set. Finally I was able to leave this abandoned cram school---then finally I was able to confirm my location. This cram school’s location was on the border of the rural town that I lived in----that being said, this area having buildings, having this kind of cram school that’s about to fall apart, I had absolutely no idea. Probably got swallowed up by the big cram school in front of the station, and then closed down. As a last resort for a hiding spot, Kissshot this person, she really found a place like this. Then I immediately phoned home. Luckily, it was my little sister who picked up. The older little sister. Big brother is using spring break to go on a trip to find himself, use that to tell everyone, I just told her like that. The older little sister agreed too. ...But, just like that I made my little sister think I’m the kind of big brother where at any moment he could go on a trip to find himself. I’m really useless. Then, immediately the younger little sister sent a text to me. Middle-school little sisters, both of them don’t have cellphones, so she used the computer in the living room to text me. “To onii-chan. Although in the beginning I only believed half of it, but, my powers as a vampire are indeed real--- if you talk about testing it, explaining it in detail would be getting interrogated or arrested because of the crime of breaking public properties. Well. It was a ruin from the beginning, it won’t matter if it breaks a little? That kind of thing. “But---something seems to be left out.” It’s like getting wrapped around by Kissshot’s words. The thing about me becoming a vampire, is already an indisputable truth---for example. Unconsciously, thinking about other stuff...can I really turn back into a human? Can no one be sure that Kissshot isn’t lying? Using me in order to retrieve her limbs--- not satisfied with seeing me as food, just like words using me like limbs.... No, about that, Kissshot had said from the beginning that it isn’t an order, but a threat. I could have not lent my power to her. ....But in order to prevent me from thinking that it is a waste of time---using turning back into a human to lie to me. As bait---so she lied. Using the matter of turning me back into a human. It’s possible that Kissshot was thinking like that. “.....” No. Me turning into a servant, that girl doesn’t have to do such a troublesome thing, isn’t just an order enough? .....Hmm. Oshino Meme The old man that happened to pass-by, revealed his name. I thought it was a ridiculous name, here was a person that needed to be rescued, I couldn’t say something like that towards him. Even if he had this weird look. Even if he was wearing this weird Hawaiian shirt. As long as he had rescued me---I couldn’t point any fingers at him. .......... But he really is a sluggish old man..... “Ah....Oshino.” Should I add –san to it? Should I use honorifics? I feel kind of lost---but, although he is my savior, as long as I don’t know his real side, I can’t just make any move. An enemy or a friend. I still haven’t determined if I could be saved. Although making any moves is kind of weird. But, I should at least say thanks to him. “Thank you for saving me.” “No need to thank me. I saw you were alone so I helped you. That’s all, Araragi-kun.” Oshino said in an innocent tone. It was uncomplicated. That aside, those three people---after the initial attack got blocked by Oshino, they escaped from the road they came from like on command. In only a moment there were no traces of them. They didn’t even leave a word of escape. I didn’t finish the goal of retrieving Kisshot’s limbs---but at least my life was rescued. Oshino Meme— This Hawaiian shirt wearing man, doesn’t look like my enemy....nor Kissshot Acerolaorian Heartunder Blade’s enemy, but---- “Speaking of it, Araragi Koyomi----this name. If he’s a different type of vampire exorcizing specialist than those three people. Right now he could easily eliminate. Eliminating the weakened Kissshot Acerolarorion Heartunder Blade. Looking at it the other way Oshino isn’t an enemy. But I still can’t call him simply a comrade. “Hey! I’m back!” I said some unneeded stuff to Oshino (Like animes from before, words that were really unneeded. I understood there was no point in determining if Oshino was an enemy or friend.), after walking about an hour, back to the second floor of the cram school ruin, Kissshot looked really happy, actually it felt more like she’s gotten tired of waiting. Uwha. This girl, she totally haven’t realized that her battle plan had a flaw. After that she said. “Hmm...? The guy behind..... I think I have seen that face from somewhere before?" “That’s mean. Only remembering to this degree.” Oshino could only smile. “Wasn’t it me who told you about this secret base. Heartunder Blade, Kai Killer-chan.” “Ahhh...right, that time.” Kissshot nodded her head. Ehm. Anyway, it looks like he didn’t lie---Oshino really did meet Kissshot that night. Then the fact that this place used to be a cram school, was probably heard from Oshino. “Well?” As if Kissshot had no interest in Oshino at all---she then looked towards me. Like I said, don’t look at me with such eyes full of expectations. “Well....listen to me calmly, okay?” I don’t know ventriloquism, or speaking in circles. The me who avoided people calling me after becoming a high school student , had an unusually low amount of speaking techniques. Basically---I got lost in talking about the situation where I had all three people; Dramaturgie, Episode and Guillotinecutter as opponents at the same time. So I failed in retrieving the limbs. Moreover I was rescued by Oshino from danger. Just like that I shallowly explained it. By the way, Oshino during this time gathered up the desks. I thought about what he was trying to do, who would have thought that he was just making a bed. Why? Is he tired? What is this, this unconstrained freedom...... “Huh.” After listening to everything, Kissshot didn’t show a sign of disappointment. Should be so. Although the attitudes of a ten-year-old can be misleading, but this person should be older than me. She wouldn’t cause trouble out of nothing. I haven't really been happy with any of the professional translations of Nisio's books; they just didn't sound like him. The writing style was all wrong, or just really uneven, with lots of awkward, clunky phrases.
I wanted to see if I could do better. Since I wanted to capture Nisio's style, I was more faithful to that and his intentions than the literal word. This probably makes it read very differently than a more typical approach; I replaced a lot of jokes, for instance. Feel free to roast me for that if you think it doesn't work. I put my version of Hitagi Crab up here. |

After a brief conversation with konart we have concluded that when Tsubasa and Araragi were talking about Russian, Nision made a mistake with translating スパシーボ as great. For the people who can read katakana, you'll know that the word is pronounced as Supashiibo. However, it seems that according to konart, the closest word to Supashiibo in Russian is Spasibo or Спасибо. The word in fact means thank you. Now in the book Tsubasa used 素晴らしい which means great, wonderful. In the end it seems that there is no way these two words can connect. So for the people who knows Russian and is confused, blame Nisio.

Awesome dude, thanks a lot.
The fight was rather good, I think. I mean, it wasn't anything over the top, nor was it a display of techniques, or tactics. But, for Araragi, I guess that was okay. Anyway, I liked the chapter, but I'm urging for more Kiss-Shot. She's barely done anything yet, and I'm reading this precisely because I want to know more about her!
