There wasn't a recent popular series named Mai-Virgin.

Seriously. A recent Simoun ad promoted the series as "Otome Meets Otome"....

Well, see that's the thing - the actual title isn't "boku" but お姉さま (onee-sama), which is more like "The maiden's in love with the older sister". The ボク (boku) furi isn't actually a rendition of the kanji, but it's sort of there to emphasis the "joke" - the "onee-sama" is actually a guy, and the guy is actually "boku" - "me", the protagonist. So if you read it using the kanji it's (roughly) "The maiden's in love with the older sister", but using the furi it's "The maiden's in love with me" (and the "me" is actually a guy). That's the joke, and the plot in one line.

(With thanks to a good Japanese translator friend of mine. )

You're thinking of Mai Otome, an alternate universe/distant future spinoff of My Hime. It isn't really correct to translate otome as virgin for that series, as the "otome" had nanomachines implanted giving them special powers, that they of course lost if they lost their virginity...

That's one of the things I like about Japanese. Something like that doesn't work well in english. As for how it's read, I'd pronounce it boku, but the kanji's meaning would be implied. Though I've only recently started studying japanese again after a few years off, so it might not be correct to do so.

I don't really consider it as a shoujo ai ...well maybe half shoujo ai... since the girl who's going to fall for the guy in disguise is a lesbian...

中途半パン shoujo ai i would say...

I wasn't suggesting that it was -- I was suggesting that other series are glomming on to the word "otome" as a result of Mai-Otome being popular. (It's "otome" rather than "virgin" because it wasn't Mai-Virgin.)

Ah, sorry, I misread your post. I read it as "wasn't there", not "there wasn't". Must be tired...

Uh, that's really bad news. I'm getting less and less enthusiastic about this...

ANN has cast list too.

Chiaki Takahashi as Takako Itsukushima
Kei Shindou as Kei Takanashi
Madoka Kimura as Kimie Sugawara

Miyu Matsuki as Shion Jyuujyou
Sakura Nogawa as Michiko Takane
Yui Horie as Mizuho Miyanokouji

But still - girls all falling in love with a guy that looks like a girl ... HRMPH. Somewhat UNORIGINAL, don't you think, especially with Ouran showing right now?

Both were announced at around the same time (or more likely, I heard of both at the same time).

That means their production was around the same time, with Ouran broadcasting first.

So just because one aired before the other doesn't mean it's a rip-off of the other. Of course I don't expect this to be even comparable with Ouran but take it as it is. Even if it is 100X worse, I'd still probably follow it for the simple reason there are shitloads of girls here. Because following Ouran has become a chore because while smartass rich guys may be charming to a girl, my real-life experience -- as a guy -- of constantly being surrounded by real-life smartass rich guys was unpleasant indeed.

She have did like, only 1 or 2 animes? (Even then Negima anime is a >.>ed anime in the eyes of some).

All those japanese naming issues... I wonder what's the official romaji for the name of the series - with Oneesama or with Boku?

And unlike Ouran, there is no 'disturbingly rich guys' haunting the anime.

Yuko Goto is probably going to sound either like:

1. 'Loli' Mikuru
2. 'Older' Mikuru
3. Kaede Fuyou

So, make your pick.

I'm not going to even speculate about Yui Horie at all >.> .

Otome wa Oanesama ni Koi Shiteru

Mizuho Miyanokouji is good at all subjects, and he has wealthy family. He also has the good look. In another word, he has everything, except weakness. One day, he's being called to his grandfather and fulifll his grandfather's last wish. The wish for him is to graduate from a prestigeous female only school. To make the matter more...humm... funny, that school is known for yuri tradition. Hence, Mizuho starts his life as a cross dresser.

Well, it's another anime based on the gal game. I hope this anime is not going to be like Tsuyokiss anime. Tsuyokiss anime has its good part, but it doesn't follow the game faithfully. I mean, it's nothing like the game. That factor is disappointing. From the website, Otome wa Oanesama ni Koi Shiteru anime looks like the game. Let's see what it will turn out.

A threa for this series already exists under the title otome wa boku ni koishiteru. Although the title has the kanji for onee-sama, the furigana reads boku. Somehow I think I'll find the way they did the title more interesting than the series itself. However, I'll still probably watch it. "Anime based on bishoujo game..." is enough to sell it to me.
