The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant - 自来也豪傑物語 ~ Jiraiya gōketsu monogatari.

Description:

Jiraiya kills one of the Pains only to realise he's fought him before. Shima leaves on Jiraiya's request, as Jiraiya and Fukasaku go back out to fight Pain, where Jiraiya realizes that he has met all of them before. He learns Pain's secret, but is stabbed by all five at once. Dying, he remembers how Naruto never once gave up and he writes a message on Fukasaku's back. Pain attacks him again, and he drowns into the sea, satisfied at the end that Naruto shall carry on his will.

A sad episode.

Jiraiya managed to kill the summoning Pein and Ma Toad took it back.

It seems all of the Pein's are people Jiraiya has versed in combat before.

This episode sort of reminded me of the scene in the Zabzua arc between Naruto and Sakura crying over Sasuke. They really nailed it on the emotional part.

Nice music to the ending.. it was quite sad.

The ending was done very well and really liked how he had put his hand on Naruto's shoulder in order to say his last goodbye.

I knew Jiraiya's last moments were going to be done well, IMO it was one of Kishimoto's finer chapters of part 2 and would have taken some drastic mistakes to ruin it. However like many have said, the touch on the shoulder was a nice compliment. A rather fitting way to say farewell to one of the most interesting and fun characters, and well my favorite. It was a shame that in the end Tsunade finally saw him in the light he wanted, yet he never lived to experience it. R.I.P Jiraiya Sensei...

Well, the main reason he didn't run away was to figure out the secret of the six path of Peins, which he did, thus the dying message. But yeah it is a plot device.

I still don't understand why anime characters never retreat, refocus, create a new plan and come back to fight another day, instead they stay there and die. Could he not go see their faces then go retreat again...DAMN YOU PLOT NO JUTSU!!!!!

He was about to retreat but was too slow.

I was surprised. From the manga, I didn´t remember Jiraiya actually had the chance to retreat, but didn´t use it.

I'm talking about when he was still in the barrier, if he escaped at that moment then there was always the chance of facing him again with greater knowledge of his abilities.

Yeah I had to fight back the urge too. It was perfectly made.
I believe Naruto will accomplish all of Jiraiya's failures.

One of the saddest naruto episodes I have ever seen. I remember getting really sad when I read this manga chapter. They did an amazing job, I can honestly give this episode a 10/10. Almost makes up for Gai doppleganger fight

Judging from the preview, it doesn't appear that this anime is slowing up even the slightest. Epicness after epicness that it is.

Spoiler: He thought that his life was failure after failure - he couldn't have been more wrong about that. His greatest success, Minato... and his greatest legacy, Naruto. They are far from failures. Not to mention he was a great guy - definitely a father figure to Naruto. The animation at the end, my god. It was done so beautifully, it was done with so so so much respect... Those bastards really didn't pull any punches. They made my favorite character in Naruto so much justice. I am so happy that his death was made so well... but I am also devastated by his death.
