You can read it from the author's website, as it was a webcomic before he published it. It would be cool if someone would translate it, hehe

Whether I continue to do it or not is totally up to me, but:

Afghan Memo Ep. 1 - "Great Game"
During the 19th century, the political tug-of-war regarding territorial rights in Central Asia between the Russian Empire and Great Britain were known as the "Great Game."

In 1838, Great Britain occupies Afghanistan. With the first and second British-Afghan wars, Afghanistan becomes a British protectorate.

However, in the third British-Afghan war in 1919, Afghanistan was able to drive out the British and achieve its own independence.

Afghan Memo Ep. 2 - "Pakistan"
In 1947, Pakistan gains independence from British India, and is known as "Islamic Republic of Pakistan." At this time, Pakistan had two territories divided through a corridor, in which East Pakistan would later declare independence and call itself "Bangladesh."

In Persian, the word Pakistan means "land of the pure," and is also known for taking the letters from the five large groups residing in the area:
Punjab
Afghan
Kashmir
Sindh
Baluchistan

Afghan Memo Ep. 3 - "The economy of Afghanistan"
Roughly three-fourths of Afghanistan is in rugged terrain with mountainous regions, with very little arable and irrigated lands. It is also a landlocked country with no coastal waters, so their main source of water comes from melting snow from the highlands.

Afghanistan was able to self-sustain on its own for many years, but recent years saw violence, political upheavals, drought and famine which has reduced its economy significantly.

That was an interesting strip, thanks for sharing. ^^

Merican (American)'s reaction to the cat (Al Qaeda) bite (9-11) cracked me up, poor Afghanis-tan.
The ending was sweet, let's hope Afghanis-tan don't get any more crazy turban al quaeda cats or space police talibans messing her up anymore.

...Pakistan-neechan? ← There's a word that don't come into your mind everyday.

Very nice ^_^

It was so cute that I couldn't contain myself, sorry if this upset anyone involved...
EDIT: Corrected EP 1 further on in the thread.

Didn't really have anything else to do so... sorry Srin ;D

I could work on the rest if it's ok with everyone, some find it easier to read it this way. It's really nice though ^_^

Looking great! I would like to see more edited images if kj1980 and Srin Tuar don't mind. Actually, what would be interesting is to ask if the original author would authorize an English translation.

Ill give memo #4 a shot:

Afghan Memo #4 -- The Durand Line
In 1893, when Pakistan was still a part of English held India, the Durand Line Agreement was signed, establishing the present day border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

However, because this border cuts through the area belonging to largest tribe in the region, the Pashtuns, it became a source of conflict between the two countries, eventually leading to a severing of diplomatic relations and a closing of borders in 1961.

This caused considerable economic stagnation in afghanistan, so relations were soon restored.

I always suspect that the borders were purposely drawn that way in the Middle East and Africa by their former "conquerors" or colonial masters so as to create instability.

BTW, I really like this comics strip. I am hoping for the same thing that Zalas was hoping for, that is an authorized translated version of this.

Afghan Memo #5 - An Agrigultural Nation

Afghanistan is highly dependent upon agriculture products and livestock.
Roughly 70% of the population are engaged in agrarian occupations.

The primary products of Afghanistan are wheat, cotton, fruit, and nuts.

In the 1990's, the northern and eastern reaches of Afghanistan were producing
large amounts of illicit crops (first place in world opium production). In the
year 2000, due to the political influence of the Taliban, governmental policy
took a U-turn, and the production of illicit crops took a drastic decline.

However, after the destruction of the government, illicit crop production
bloomed again due to the productivity and high value of such crops. It remains
a problem to this day.
