Yes, they had to. The boxes is how Saints carry their Cloths in the original manga and series. This is how S2 get "back to the roots" by ditching the convenient Cloth Stone (and also for merchandise sake

). It looks cumbersome indeed, but if you are a Saint who already achieved 7th sense, carrying those boxes should be nothing.

Yeah, no magical gems in the original series. They had to carry their cloths in big boxes on their back like real men.

You should watch the original series if you haven't. Just skip the awful ghost saint filler.

And you might as well watch the filler in Saint Seiya, you can't really get away from it even in episodes with stuff that actually happened.

The asgard arc was actually pretty good for a filler arc but the alres minion arc was just character assassination.

It wasn't that bad, Haruto was able to defeat the 3rd rank pallasite with relative ease and the latter even needed and 2nd in rank to save his ass of getting whooped by Haruto.

Next episode seems interesting. Eden now has a club and even more...

Silver Saint of the Shield is alive!!!

Note: One of Kurumada's manga(Ring ni Kakero?) has the characters meeting while one of them plays a piano, later this was imitated by Evangelion manga's meeting between Kaworu and emo-Shinji.
