@zero: so...
1. Reactor produces 1MW, assumedly 10% is electric energy and 90% is thermal(?) 2. MHD accepts heated cooling fluid and extracts electronic energies via hall-effect therefore reducing overall energy and probably temperature(relatively) assuming another 30% drop from the remaining 90% thermal energy retained. 3. remaining 60% energy now is treated as waste heat and has to be rejected or has the alternative to be run through a conventional thermal boiler turbine engine? counting 1MW, if I run through my own version of the numbers. 100kW from the reactor. 300kW from the MHD (.3)600kW = 180 kW from the conventional boiler turbine engine that about right? o.o???? |

Ah, no, no nuclear reactor can harvest the energy directly somehow unless you have ultimate solar panel as reactor shelling.... like the material used for I.S. core for example. It does not have heat signature after all.
(of course, they're GOD DAMN expensive, in Len's word, definitely not worth the effort) 1. MHD = 200 kW 2. Sub Modules = 500-700 kW depending on efficiency 3. Net waste heat = 100-300 kW That's still better than wasting 600 kW in coal plant or 400 kW in normal gas Turbine. MHD these days is projected to supplement these system, until Fusion become prominent that is. In the end, those reactor is used by Fortress-class I.S. packets, not as main powerplant, but a propulsion.

Submodules can be individual or parallel system depending on choice... or giant heatsink if the designer really stupid
In these fortress, usually each reactor is linked to single engine worth 20 kN thrust. Same reactor and engine is used in the equivalent of Vanguard Overboost for normal I.S. (though they are expected to be reusable instead of ditched mid-mission)

Yes, since the heat goes to propulsion system. As said before, if you want an actual powerplant, simply use the larger one is more cost-efficient.
200 kW is not something to be sneezed though, unless we're talking about energy shield or weapon

The latter, though if it's inside earth sphere, simply heating the compressed air is enough (the engine will run at 50% efficiency). It could even breathe water, though there's always that pesky 60 mph limit
EDIT: scratch that, make it 75 mph The engine can run fully on it's own propellant as rocket if you wish to use it in the vacuum of space or supercavitation underwater run.

Woah, good draft there. He's not losing his current personality, but softened up when the plot call for it. Considering it's dark future though, and the fact that you use multiverse argument, I won't hope much for [good end].
Also, the villains seems to be in his way to event horizon from the implication.

Yup, though he doesn't know what happens to them. Again, one of the biggest reasons Saito becomes a Knight in Sour Armor is because of human's willingness to do things like that. There is a marked difference between his personality at the start of the story to his personality midway through.
Anyway, I need advice: How does one do a romance scene when both of them are too shy to do anything?

Simple, they didn't. Their mind will be full of conflict of "do want/sort of want/do not want" and how their partner react for it (in their mind, thank you very much). It'll be like that unless someone took initiative or third parties crashing in.

Have you ever made a story with a complete downer ending?
Because I've seen some examples where people seem not to care that they have their first time sexual experience taken, but start complaining about their first kiss being stolen.
