I just watched this and, as it often happens to me with GITS, I can't get my head around the politics with just one viewing. I get the plot and the motives of each faction, but the politics are a bit convoluted.
The action was pretty awesome with fluid motion and fantastic artwork. The team interaction felt great. Boma, Ishikawa, Paz, Saitou and Togusa all got their moment to shine. Of course, Batou is the best Saitou is funny with his itching to kill someone, as well as Togusa with him being the only fleshy in the gang. The Logicomas are adorable as all their counterparts usually are It seems that the ending of this movie ties into the beginning of the original 1995 GITS movie. Pretty cool. I never watched Arise because I couldn't adjust to Motoko's new style, but I enjoyed this so much that I'll give Arise another go. Last edited by Casshern; 2015-11-01 at 08:43. |

I can get barely any emotion out of anything that's come from the Arise reboot (only from the Logikoma comedy bits). And, while I never had a problem following the no less complex plots of the original movies and SAC, for some reason I can't say the same about Arise. 'Convoluted' is a good word (thanks, Casshern); it's not that it's harder to follow along per se, but the effort feels artificially imposed and isn't particularly rewarding. The action was good (I even rewatched a few scenes for it), but that can't make up for everything. Compared to pre-Arise works, it's sort of like... having to deal with a remote-controlled cyborg as opposed to someone with an actual ghost, if that makes sense.

So, due to some business going on, I watched the movie just now in a proper setups (coz I won't accept lesser for viewing enjoyment). I'd say I like this movie very much. The little reveal about Major's past is very nice, kinda like how Skyfall movie handled James Bond's past by only mentioned it in passing but we still got loli-Major in a flashback. Poor Kurutsu, and poor poor Saito and his genuine ear who got trolled in the movie . And we got to see more Major flirting juuuust a little bit, but I guess she's just too much for the guy .
Anyway, for those who dislike Motoko's haircut in Arise (me included), there's a mid-credit scene in the movie where her appearance becomes more like her movie-counterpart. So yeah, if there's any sequel to this New Movie, I think you're guaranteed to get a better-looking Motoko . EDIT: Quote:
Spoiler for Plot Twist in the Movie:
So, those who think that it’s OK to watch this movie without watching Alternative Architecture (AA) will understandably be confused coz the event in the movie is the culmination of the whole Fire-Starter plot from AA. It’s like watching Gundam 00 movie without first watching the series.

Question about the new movie "Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie"?
Based on what you’ve seen in the movie, how would you define the term “ghost”? Why does it seem to be important to only some of the characters, but not others? How important should it be that a highly technological society pays attention to and even cares for its ghosts?

There have always been two running themes centered on this in GITS. One was whether a ghost could be fully digitalised and outlive the brain that originally generated it. The other was whether a ghost could be created by artificial means (for example, whether and AI could develop a ghost or not).
