Gon starts off really quite innocent, but is finding out the darker sides of himself (the parts that, for example, can be terrified by something, yet also find them strangely exciting). "Darker" may be overstating it a little, but I can't think of a better adjective right now.

Ah, yeah, that's a better way of putting it. I was trying to get at the same idea (I think), but from the point of the view of the audience. So maybe it would have been better if I'd said that the audience is getting a better idea of what his full personality entails. And really, it makes sense--I mean, most of us are a mixed bag, and very frequently, the better parts are inextricably linked the less desirable ones.

But without knowing more of the plot to come, it's hard for me to say for sure beyond just speculation. Anyway, I'm really excited for the next parts...

The old anime didn't really "get" Gon's character. They made him a bit more generic and played up his innocent insight a bit much. Killua was also a bit more generic. I think Kurapica was the only character that the extra characterization in the first anime did much justice to.

It's the show viewership rating for the week. 4.0 is pretty damned nice.

I thought it was already established that as far as the actual TV ratings are concerned, HxH was like the greatest thing since sliced bread and One Piece. (slightly exaggerated, I mean it was doing pretty well for itself)

Not necessairly, the ratings have been kinda mixed for it's timeslot. Although since it's definently going past that initial 45 episode count and we're getting a movie it's doing pretty well for itself. Hopefully by the time we get to later arcs the ratings will be more consistent/

SHINOBI-03 Senior Member Join Date: May 2012	-EPISODE 44- Spoiler for Part 1: Manga: last part of chapter 75, chapter 76 and first half of chapter 77 Nippon’s Adaptation: Second half of episode 53, first third of episode 54 Episode starts with more Uvo madness In the manga the Troupe members are already playing cards. In Nippon’s adaptation they started earlier. Here, Shalnark tells Uvo of the arrivalof the Shadow Beasts and then they play. More toned down violence again. Worm’s bones were sticking out of his fingers after punching Uvo in the manga. The bones did not stick out in either adaptations, however, Worm’s hand was twitching in Madhouse’s adaptation. Here in the manga, Worm’s eye flew off his face after the punch. In Madhouse’s adaptation the eye popped off but didn’t fly. In Nippon’s adaptation the punch came straight forward and therefore the eye didn’t pop out nor were the teeth shattered. Worm talks about his powers in Nippon’s adaptation and how it increases when he’s underground. The power explanation was not in the manga along with the chit chat of the rest before attacking. Uvo’s super awesome enhancer attack. It took some time to charge up compared to Nippon’s adaptation which was in an instant. A direct full view of Worm’s severed arm! In the manga we don’t get to see it up close. In Nippon’s adaptation we see the moment it get torn off and we later see it attached to Uvo’s arm but we don’t see the whole piece. And here’s the spider tattoo. In actuality, the shirt did help conceal it because it felt weird how they were behind him and didn’t see that giant tattoo on his back fully exposed in the manga and Nippon’s adaptation! Kurapika’s tension Some info on Uvo’s abilities and power in Nippon’s adaptation came from his info page from chapter 79 Uvogin (Enhancer) His only interests are strength training and winning street fights. He focuses his entire aura into his fist to produce his Big Bang Impact, which has the destructive force of a small missile. His goal is to hone his punch until it creates a blast equivalent to a nuclear bomb. Porcupine was hairier in the manga compared to the anime. In Nippon’s adaptation we see how it works up close. This scene remains as it is in Madhouse’s adaptation. In Nippon’s adaptation the blood was toned down and we don’t get to see the bite when it happened. Porcupine’s scene was extended a bit in Nippon’s adaptation This scene is the same as the previous one (Note the animation error of missing Porcupine from Uvo’s arm in Nippon’s adaptation) Uvo’s paralysis Machi’s comment on Rabid Dog’s style was changed to Feitan in Nippon’s adaptation. Leech’s leeches were darker colored in both adaptations in contrast to the manga where they are in lighter color. Leech’s explanation in Nippon’s adaptation came with a diagram of Uvo’s body and where the leeches go to. The bite scene surprisingly came in a direct view and unaltered despite its gory nature!! The only thing different is not seeing a part of his brain in his head and the blood coming out of him when he falls down! In Nippon’s adaptation it was from a different angle and the bite sound effect was terrible. It sounded like he was biting an apple, and we get the usual black blood. Uvo’s rape face Spoiler for Part 2: Uvo’s inhale was not as the manga. And to be honest, I didn’t like the vacuum sound effect. Uvo’s spitting face is a beast in the manga! Too bad neither adaptations made it close. Rabid Dog tried to block Uvo’s shot by using nen. The nen did not appear in the manga but the injury remains as it is except that we don’t see his face from the front when the shot went out of his head. The scene was toned down in Nippon’s adaptation. Somehow the troupe members knew that Uvo is going to shout at the top of his lungs in Madhouse’s adaptation in contrast to the manga where they didn’t expect that and got mad at him for not telling them beforehand. And the yell didn’t sound that powerful in both adaptations. Kurapika didn’t cover his ears in the manga, but poor Senritsu! It’s a miracle she didn’t get deaf with her super hearing ability!! Porcupine’s death is as it is except not having blood coming out of his eyes and Uvo toys with him for a while. In Nippon’s adaptation we don’t see his ears bleed, although we do see a trail after he falls down. Weren’t they prepared for it? The guards discussion scene was moved before the troupe discussing Uvo’s situation and how to treat him in both adaptations. In Madhouse’s adaptation Kurapika was more rebellious towards Dalzollen. In Nippon’s adaptation the argument was somewhat between her and Squala. Senritsu’s ability Uvo’s shocked reaction on Shizuku’s inability to suck out the leeches was not seen in Madhouse’s adaptation Nippon’s adaptation gives us the build up for Uvo’s capturing which in my opinion ruins the element of surprise. Do you know how the middle finger is considered an insult?! In the manga, Worm reappears to ask for help from the rest of the Shadow Beasts before Kurapika’s move. Here, it’s after capturing Uvo. This scene was omitted in Nippon’s adaptation. A short filler scene of Chrollo getting updated on the situation. This was another scene in the manga and it’ll be in the next episode and therefore I’m not gonna talk about it at the moment. In Nippon’s adaptation Basho was driving instead of Kurapika Kurapika’s chains in the manga got bigger in this scene. In both adaptations they remained in their original size. Uvo foaming was also in the manga (Note the missing chains around Uvo’s neck in Madhouse’s adaptation) Kurapika’s heart After seeing this episode and the previous one, I can say the Madhouse did keep their promise by making this arc different in tone compared to the previous arc. What we saw of darkness and gore was totally unexpected and we didn’t think they’d be able to pull it off!
