Well, excuse plot is an excuse....
I'm trying to subvert the concept of Positive Discrimination, the only true male pilot is potentially the strongest in the world, even though he started as rookie. Other male pilot is along the line weak but skilled, as their very existence changes the fundamental concept.

To be honest, I don't know. In mine, that was the exact reason, Tabane saw way of the sword and Japanese Traditionalist as boring (until she met Chifuyu at least, and even then she only cares about Chifuyu).
It's depend on situation, really. Weak but skilled type relies on dynamic and adaptation, using enemy's asset and weakness as their own strength. If they failed to do so, then they'll be owned by the strong one.

Why does everybody use "This OC knows/has a connection to Tabane" in just abut every story? I mean, come on, this is the same excuse just about everybpdy uses.
Shitty (And I mean Horrible) pilot vs a very experience human soldier. Who'd win?

*Cough*
Because it's convenient, what else? Especially if you need to introduce nifty toys with ability to fight against I.S., or at least strong enough to fight alongside them without being treated as hopeless cannon fodder. And yes, that was my excuse as well. Depending to whether the soldier can bring massive firepower or causing terrain damage. 'normal' soldier weapon are supposedly useless.

Once again, as you said yourself, that's the most common, uncreative shortcut. Otherwise, someone that hates Tabane, or her fan, or... the possibility is endless, really
Well... no. Remember that I.S. pilot has faster reflex and reaction inside their I.S. due to nifty little bugger called Hypersensor

Is it odd that I make OC's who use brains rather than fighting and brute force? Even Bad future Kazuma's more of an Extremely dirty combat pragmatist rather than action hero.
You know, the IS feels like a kick in the nada for any trained professional. @ Treme - My only Renegade move in the game Too bad none of your choices matter, given the ending

That guy is from Mass Effect 3.... and he killed a Korgan with a knife.....
What so bad about this? A Korgan(Alien) is damn tough..... they can take a head shot with a freaking sniper rifle and survive (To my freaking surprising when I first encounter it in Mass Effect 2.... things usually die or have half-HP when you Sniped them.....) You need a really powerful shotgun to take out the damn Korgan.... Edit: Okay...I admit: you just need a normal shotgun but you need to unload all lead into one just to kill it. To kill a Korgan with a knife is like..... impossible.

Not odd, hell, in fact it was good, the effort making that plausible is not few. Many author (me included) is too lazy to do that, with some other just don't know where to put the limit and distinction.
Ichika might exaggerate everything, but he has milder fact as basis for those claims. When he said Military is suffer, it's because they're overshadowed (I.S. might not invincible, but hell, defeating one with conventional force will cost a lot, lives and money alike).

@ Senpai - now that I'm about halfway done with my first chapter Shadow re-write, I need some questions answered: Do kids or teens often get the death penalty? Also, how Long does it usually take to go from hating someone to loving them, provided that you spend a significant amount of time with them daily?
@ Treme - So how will you choose to die in the end? Blue, green, or red light? I chose blue since it felt Paragon.

First: depending on country related. However told you the truth, I never heard any case of kids and teens (at least, of non-legal age) being executed at all.
Second, it's really depend on quality of interaction. If they're totally mismatched, it'll took a lot of time, months at least. If they're having a sparky start but still have some some chemistry, few months is enough.
