I can't tell what the title "series director" means. I take it the director does have the final say, while the series director could handle the series alone but is prevented from doing so.

Anyway, possibly they changed a person because they want Nisemonogatari to have a slightly different feel from Bakemonogatari, or something like that.

Whoa, 14 eps? Is this getting 15 eps like Bake?

No, that's what he did on Bake, not what he will do on Nise.

I don't think we have an episode count for Nise yet.

Itamura Tomoyuki?... I remember Shinbo praising him for his effort on finishing directions for 14th episode, but that's about it. In Bakemonogatari, he directed 2nd, 3rd, Recap, 11th and 14th episode; draw conti for 11th, 12th and 14th episode, and assisted 7th and 8th episode. Basically, he was a person who was most involved with the direction of the series, right before Oishi Tatsuya and Miyamoto Yukihiro

But honestly, I would like having Oishi Tatsuya better... or even Miyamoto Yukihiro. I didn't even know his name until I saw that interview where Shinbo, Kubota and Iwakami talks about airing of 14th episode. Itamura didn't participate in many series, unlike any other staff members who did the series director before.

To sum up, he is a newcomer. We can expect NOTHING currently. Let's see what he has in Nisemonogatari.

Series director is something that only exists in Shaft. Basically, there is another sub-director right under Shinbo's position. Series director serves the role of balancing each episode and control overall directions/storyboard; Shinbo does other major supervisions for animation and advices.

Bakemonogatari already had dramatic change in direction if you compare it from the 1st episode to 12th episode. So I think it doesn't really matter if feel changes. Beside, he seems to be very good at directing scenes with lengthy conversations. That fits Nisemono exactly.

Shouji Kawamori of Macross fame has done this role quite often.

Yeah it seems that it's over in regards to Supercell + Nagi Yanagi, for the time being anyway. At least they're keeping the Supercell connection even though imo it loses a bit without Nagi... anyway I also really like Claris and love their work with kz so hopefully this turns out nicely.

Speaking of Nagi Yanagi she hasn't exactly disappeared... she is doing the ending theme for J.C Staff's winter show Ano Natsu de Matteru, which is by the Onegai Teacher team. She's also working on a lot of songs with Maeda Jun of KEY fame..
