Just finished reading the full Ch 96 ("side B")

From a mahjong POV, I'm shatting tiles bricks.

Wow Kasumi is pretty strong and is a boobie monster lol. I liked the chapter and the color pages were awesome. But i'm starting to feel bad for Kyouko getting pounded like she is. I really want either Himematsu or Miyamori to advance along with Kiyosumi, but so far its not looking good.

Hmm........Kazumi has the ability to randomlly collect one type of suit for each round. This allow her to get chiniitsu hand easily.

It is similar to Kuro's dora magnet ability but no restriction on discard.

I finally read chapter 96 after waiting for so long, but it felt so short since they only completed a single hand in the chapter.

Seriously, something has to done with this series' of-the-wall pacing. It's like the main series and the spin-off are on the opposite sides of the spectrum: one is as slow as hell and the other is sometimes rushed to the point of incoherence.

Anyway, that aside, Kasumi's ability is now coming to light. Based on how I interpreted the chapter, it seems that, in her current mode, she can attract certain suits into her hand, but the conditions for this power are still unknown, kinda like Kuro and Yuu's tile attractor powers in the spin-off.

Still no Rinshan Tsumo.

1. Toyone sits after Kasumi. Since the tiles they draw will be different, Toyone cannot chi at all. The only way she can use her "single wait" move is to pon or kan, but the tiles she need will likely be kept by Saki, Suehara.

Also, Kasumi doesn't riichi at all. So Toyone cannot use her "pursuit riichi" as well.

So, effectively, Kasumi has sealed Toyone's two abilities in one fell swoop.

2. With the tiles Kasumi attract to herself, and the non-drawing for the others, it means that Kasumi will not need to worry about giving the win to others (unless it's a character tile), nor will the others worry about giving the win to her.

So, that means it's a 1-sided solo game, and a 3-sided battle royale game now. It's one hell of a attacking and defensive move by Kasumi.

The only way so far seems to be going for a speed game, before Kasumi completes her hand, but the other 3 doesn't seem to take the option at the moment.

Also, there seems to be a premonition for the coming chapters. Look at the hands of Saki, Toyone and Suehara when Kasumi tsumos.

Also, it's interesting, I wonder how they'll counter her ability. The only possible weakness is that it makes her hand really obvious, and she still seems to draw honor tiles so it might be possible to grab a win from her there, but otherwise they'll need to rely on speed to get tsumos. Even 13 Orphans wouldn't work because you'd either be missing both the one and the nine of a suit.

well everyone or at least saki and toyone just need to work together to skip kasumi's drawing phase, tough i doubt it would stop kasumi completely but at least it can slow her down.

And here comes chapter 96 and Saki still not doing anything.

sigh ... I'm currently resigned to the fact that Saki doesn't do anything until its absolutely necessary or she's in danger. And let's be honest she's not in any sort of dangerous predicament right now even with the special abilities shown by Kasumi and Toyone. Besides, looking at the point spread its not like Saki needs to do anything,she can afford to be laidback for a few more hands or even until at the final hand. Though its her dealership in the next chapter so maybe she'll actually do something next chapter.

Spoiler for Kasumi's ability:

At peanutbutter's prompting I looked at the hands of the other players. And wow, Kasumi's ability is playing with fire isn't she? Kasumi made a single suit unavailable to other players since she seemed to attract it like Kuro and the dora.

Advantage of Kasumi's ability
1. She can easily do a chin'itsu yaku (flush or all tiles are from a single suit) easily.
2. She won't play at other player hands.
3. She can form a hand very quickly since she has only one suit to choose from.

Disadvantage of Kasumi's ability
1. Look at the hands of all the other players like peanutbutter said and they're all very good. With one suit out due to Kasumi, all the other players can draw are just from the other 2 suits meaning Kasumi's ability also boost their probability to complete their hand.
Note: Saki (and possibly Toyone) already have a luck boost when their picking their tiles making it easier for them is bad. Proof just look at all Saki's starting hands and draws in all her matches.

2. Any ability that draws on probability draws just got a boost unfortunately for Kasumi I think rinshan kaihou is on the list when I calculated the probability.

Normally making a kan is like 4/144 possibility or you have 2.7778% chance to make it. Now with one suit out its 4/108 or you have a 3.7037% chance to make it. It may not look much but Saki chance to kan have improved by 33.33%. This doesn't even take into account the chance that the tsumo would be successful which by the way also improved.

3. This is just a guess but it seemed being possessed have a time limit or she can't do it for a long time or at least a full hanchan. Note this quote "But since its the second match I should be able to make it through continuing this aggressive style. "

4. She also can't go back to her defensive style unless she was purified by Tomoe-chan or Haru-chan. So she's committed to an aggressive play for the rest of the match.

Saki is in Tenpai. She's likely waiting for that Rinshan Tsumo. The other two are still not in Tenpai yet.

And here is one with colored brackets, ordered by seed, and showing what prefecture each school is from. This shows the overall split by bracket throughout the nation. Numbers are the lots drawn (minus the four seeds).

The points difference of each team in this match is so small. At this moment, anyone who can win with 10,000-12,000 point+ can become 1st place.

That's sounds easy for Saki.

Anyway, since there is "two school advance to next round" rule, is it possible that author wiil make Kiyosumi lose to someone before final round? (Maybe Rinkai)

If I remember correctly, Saki's match against Koromo in the prefectural finals lasted for at least two volumes, so I wouldn't be surprised if this match lasts just as long.

In that case, I'm just going to enjoy the ride with all its assorted backstories and crazy mahjong shenanigans to make the wait more bearable.

Saki's power always becomes strongest in the last hand or two, and the scores right now are very near each other ... enough so that if Saki (let's say) got a Yakuman Ron off of any of the players she would win.

At least for the moment. There are two dealings (they are in the middle of one of them atm) left to go. I kinda have a feeling that the one who is calling everyone else at the table a "group of monsters" (and rightly so) may win this upcoming hand ... gotta have her do something, right? ... and then Saki will close it off with the last hand.

Or something like that.
