That is based on the poll results for the individual episode results right? They don't really reflect anything besides the opinions of those that visit this forum and bother to vote. But anyhow... yes the total amount of poll votes peaked at episode 5.

Looking back at those threads, Episode 4 had 36% of people voting 1s, and Episode 5 had 50% of people voting 1s. These are pretty bad results, considering that you would be hard pressed to find any other episode poll on this forum that has anything similar to that. I really don't think it's a "vocal minority" of people that don't like it based on the poll.

Hu...

Do you realize that it confirms what I said ?

By the third episodes, the ratings were already taking a huge dive (a third of "1"...).
If you consider that simply having more votes, even if half of them are "1", is a sign that the fourth ep was a success, I have to question your definition of success.

Ratings for episodes in these threads? They're done for fun; they don't reliably measure anything.

Haha, yeah... the one with the lowest rating was the sixth Endless Eight, where almost sixty percent of the votes were Painful. The fifth actually did relatively decent, randomly enough, the only one of Endless Eight 4-7 to get under 50 percent painful (41 percent, which by later Endless standards is like a huge pat on the back).

That isn't quite true.

Check other anime websites, Check the news in general. The people who like EE are actually roughly on equal terms with those who dislike it.

There is no vocal majority.

There may be no vocal majority, but the DVD sales will tell us if there is a silent majority (i.e. silent because they dropped the series halfway through E8 and are, thus, not around to complain about it.)

Yea i got you,

A lot of Anime don't buy the DVDs even if they love it so it's a bit of an unfair representation but again it's the only real one we have.

It's the one the companies use, since it costs them money to produce and air the stuff on TV. Right now, they're not making much of anything off Haruhi 2009, since you buy the airtime, and you also buy the commercial spots to sell the show's merchandise. There's a good reason that when anime shows are aired on Japanese TV, they air like 30 minute commercials for anime-related merchandise.

They don't really care about the online fan reaction. Kadokawa makes a tiny pittance of money off of re-airing it on PirateYoutube, which I suspect they turn around and mostly blow on chasing down and removing the near-unending supply of pirated material that turns up there.

To be fair over the 3 years since it was first aired they have probably made more money than they will ever need from Haruhi. The merchandise sold like CRAZY in Japan and in the west as well.

They are making quite a bit of money from the reairing actually. The DVDs (Season 1 + the first rerun dvd) are selling quite well along with a renewed buying spree of merchandise.

Yeah and then they lost much of it due to the financial meltdown. Stupid banks.

Japan wasn't hit all that hard by the credit crunch.

Compared to the rest of the world at least.

I'm stopping the potential debate here, not the right place.

Well i think it's sort of related to the Endless Eight issue but okay.
