I don't know what they were thinking, but it certainly wasn't money related. : |

Anyway, the reason I'm looking forward to tonight's episode is - more material for this!

Yes, but Kadokawa and Kyoto Animation doesn't make money on artistic sense, they make money by Japanese otaku buying 20 CDs of K-ON music. Take Transformers 2 or Gundam Seed Destiny, both where flops artistically, but made a ton of money.

If the people who buy Haruhi don't care than why should Kyoto Animation or Kadokawa care. Haruhi could be watched by 60,000 people but if it sell 40,000 DVDs/blu ray than the series is a huge sucess.

I want E8 to fail commercially I want the Haruhi DVDs to only sell 2,000 copies, for Kyoto Animation to learn that they can't just half ass a season, but looking at other anime I know that Endless 8 will sell 20,000 copies the first week, and most likely be as succesful as the first season.

It's more that the series has completely failed to live up to itself, and I think everyone here can agree on that.

They'll sell DVDs anyway... but KyoAni's name as a studio is now mud.

Recent comments by Kyoto Animation makes it clear that they only care about the first part. Hell it was kind of obvious when they started firing people with talent.

To be fair, Yamakan seems like one of those artistic visionaries who are impossible to get along with. I've heard rumors that he and Ishihara hate each other.

And you can't deny that Lucky Star improved after Yamakan got fired...

Clannad was also good except for the mood-killing ED to After Story...

So it's probably just Haruhi that really needed Yamakan. (Too bad, huh?)

Public image matters more to the fans, anyway.

I wonder who will rise to be the next great studio, and the next great anime with it...?

@Jintor: most likely betrayal of their expectations.

I hope Kyoto keeps up the irritation after Endless Eight... or I'll run out of material for Angry Hitler videos

There's always the eventual lack of Disappearance material that you can use.

I rather not have them continue Endless Eight longer and have them end it... 6 episodes is already too much and is already causing people their RAGE....

Also, I would like to see more interesting parts of the light novel animated.

Damn it, duckroll! You're making the people who like these episodes look bad.

Bold emphasis mine

I'm actually not all that sure about this. It wouldn't shock me if the DVDs sell well anyway... because this anime has one of the more hardcore and loyal fan-bases out there. To be brutally frank, KyoAni could take a giant piece of bull$#it, put it in a garbage bag, wrap a yellow Haruhi headband around the garbage bag to tie it together, slap a SOS Brigade symbol on the garbage bag, and call it 'Haruhi Season 2 DVD!', and they'd still manage to find someone who'd actually buy it.

However, you have to make more than a few sales to do well with DVDs - I don't know if the hardcore audience alone will do it. So, it also wouldn't shock me if the DVDs for this year's new episodes don't sell that well.

It's hardly a foregone conclusion that they will.

Well... on the plus side, at least people get to complain some more. That seems to be the new favorite pastime of the fanbase.

Well, this is the silver lining as I see it...

If Endless Eight ends... It'ssss.... GRREEAAT!!! (Tony the Tiger voice )

If it doesn't end... the episode itself will be a pain to watch, but the spoof videos it'll spawn on YouTube could be quite funny.
