Ep1 did very little for me, but I loved Shiraishi Ryouko's voice as Himeko.

Just watched this episode.

I found it pretty enjoyable. However, that's partly because I recently watched an anime called Shigofumi.

I like the main Sket Dance trio, and the action scenes in this were good. It's a well executed anime given the premise it has to work with, and it's decent fun.

However, I have to be honest that I'm a bit skeptical of it holding my interest for long. Aside from how this particular episode plot "spoke to me" due to what I wrote in the spoiler space above, I'm not sure how long the premise of this show will maintain that sort of emotional involvement for me.

At some level, this feels like Haruhi Lite to me, minus the supernatural elements, with more action scenes, and a more male-dominated cast (one of those three differences I like, but not the other two - I'll let people here guess as to which difference I like

).

Sket Dance is an off the wall student club, like the SOS Brigade, only it's a bit less eccentric than the SOS Brigade.

So once I've had Haruhi, can I come to be satisfied with Haruhi Lite? That will determine if I can stick with this show or not.

Still, I'll give a 8/10 for a good, solid first episode.

It was good, but not what struck me. Sugita Tomokazu sounding like Koyasu Takehito is not a bad thing. Yoshino Hiroyuki wasn't using a voice I like. Sakaguchi Daisuke...didn't make much of an impression. Shiraishi Ryouko did, however. Quite the fresh energy. I look forward to more of Seki Tomokazu.

Well, I didn't have many expectations when I started this but it turned out rather well. The production is rather good for a potentially long running shounen series. That fight scene in particular stood out, so I hope they'll keep it up with more of that quality. I'll definitely stick around since I like the premise itself.

EDIT: Oh, I'm definitely looking forward to that Pillows ED ;D.

Well I didn't think it was that funny and the way they're setting this up, it feels episodic but I like the characters and the energy. I'll watch another episode I guess. Maybe it gets better.

Hyperbole much? Just a FYI but Sket Dance was pretty much a bottom 5 dweller in the WSJ rankings for it's first 30-40 chapters. The first few chapters are really not a good indication of what it becomes.. it didn't become a comfortable mid-tier series in WSJ by sticking to the same formula as the first chapter. Off memory I'm not really looking forward to episode 2 and 3 that much...

Eh they're still rather good. It's just the writing starts to show what it can do after most of the side characters have been introduced.

Lacrosse? It looked more like a field hockey stick to me.

This is a lacrosse stick. Himeko's stick looked more like this hockey stick.

Spoiler for Slight Shigofumi spoiler tying in to Sket Dance here: Shigofumi had a rather controversial episode (Episode Six, IIRC) that is often referred to simply as "the Bully episode" and its one of the more psychologically disturbing anime episodes that I've ever watched, honestly. It's about insanely severe bullying. So seeing a bully get his just deserts at the hands of Sket Dance here was a nice emotional catharsis for me, with the memory of that particular Shigofumi episode fairly fresh in my memory. I like the main Sket Dance trio, and the action scenes in this were good. It's a well executed anime given the premise it has to work with, and it's decent fun. Anyway, watch this with minimum expectation and turns out to be much more interesting. The interaction between Bossun, Himeko (or Onihime?), and Switch is great. The story itself is not half bad too. Never predicted that Shinpachi is the culprit behind Paint Mask's incident.

broken270 Defying gravity Join Date: Jul 2010	Spoiler: So, Sket Dan is a club that tries to help everyone's problems to their utmost power. Leader of the group is Bossun, who could apparently solve anybody's probelms as long as he puts his goggles on and recaps everything that has happened related to the problem. Only female member is Himeko, who is probably the strongest out of the three, seeing as that she carrys a crowbar and would beat any body up who is going against her view of justice. Switch it by far my favorite character, able to gather any sort of information though the use of his computer. Hard to say that he is not a target for hate despite his gathering of quite personal information. Their first case was a bullying case, in which the transfer student met his long-time bully and is still horrified by him. They brought it onto themselves when they were still searching for more members to help them. Job well done for Himeko, as she was the only one who beat that guy up while Bossun and Switch were just watching from behind.
