We know 7 years ago Akane and her mother were about to drop a long way down.

Here's what I was thinking:
Akane's mother couldn't hold her any longer, and she dropped into the manifestation engine. In doing do, she absorbed a great deal of energy and turned into some sort of super being (similar to Obelix, who dropped into the cauldron of magic potion as a baby, but thankfully Akane didn't turn into a fat blob

)

In short, Akane is a mini-manifestation engine herself

That would explain why she has the same powers even without her palette suit, the latter would only be required for stuff like flying or her weapon.
When the other girls transform, Akane is channeling some of her power to their palette suits.
When the other girls power up, Akane transforms into a pure energy form and powers up their suits and weapons.

As I got it, it was sleeping at the bottom, and the girl's fight somehow disturbed its slumber, which is why it rose and attacked the beach as the cause of the disturbance.

On another note, it looks like Rei (the girl with the bow) is getting impatient and this time didn't wait until they had damaged the Alone before she powered it up.

4 is shaping up to be the best episode so far. The preview certainly looks promising.

Thanks to Getchu's update, I know that the ED of this week's episode will be "Stray Sheep Story", a duet by Akane and Himawari.

Curiously, the release doesn't list a Wakaba character song a Himawari character song, but "Wakaba and Himawari character song". These two are going right into duet territory.

Also, according to Otanews, episode 5 will be the episode that makes us say "Wha?"

I can't read Japanese, so I don't know what that news post is saying. Any other details? Will we be getting the backstory for Homura girl? '

It's just saying that 5 will be a major turning point. If they revealed exactly why it was a turning point, that'd give away the surprise.

Turns out that she was NU GUNDAM instead, with the Naked/Vivid Collider (?) being a Fin Funnel / Shield Bits deal, packing the biggest BEAM WEAPON of the girls. . Comparisons to to a certain musket-wielding Puella Magus are already being thrown around, especially with how the Tiro finale turned out Also, Himawari turns out to be a big fan of the Professor. __________________ Against all the evil that hell can conjure, all wickedness that mankind can produce...
