This is sort of my order of preference, omitting those I haven't seen or wouldn't watch again:

Kiki's Delivery Service
Whisper of the Heart
Nausicaa of the valley of the wind
The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi (must see the series first)
Howls Moving Castle
Summer Wars
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Ponyo
My Neighbor Totoro
My Neighbors the Yamadas

Just paste them in the search bar here for synopsis and reviews and such.

His and her circumstances is a series, not a movie

You have a number of Miyazaki movies as well as Shinkai Makoto's. I would say watch them all for two reasons; great animation and engaging plot. There are also few others which were not directed by them but are also good movies in my pov.

Sprited Away
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Howls Moving Castle
Kikis Delivery Service
Castle In The Sky
Grave of the Fireflies
From Up on Poppy Hill
Nausicaa of the valley of the wind
Whisper of the Heart
Princess Mononoke
Akira
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Hotarubi no Mori e
5 centimeters per second
Summer Wars
Paprika
Colorful
Perfect Blue

I haven't seen everything on your list, but I would say watch 5 cm per second, Grave of the Fireflies, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time first. These 3 still resonates in my heart when I think of them today.

Also The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, but as jedinat said above, watching the anime series first is a must.

I strongly endorse Mononoke Hime and would add Millennium Actress to the list. Summer Wars is another good choice.

Colorful, which doesn't get nearly enough respect.

There are far too many on that list that I'd recommend which isn't really helpful, so I'm just going to tell you what you really need to avoid: The Bleach films.

Well the first one is fine but definitely avoid the rest. If you've seen one then you've pretty much seen them all.

Talking Thanks

Thanks for your help. I am considering in watching :
Hotarubi no Mori e
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Ocean Waves
Summer Wars

I researched those that you chose and came up with he following above. This might sound selfish but i would also appreciate if you could recommend any others that are not on the list. Criteria: (romance, drama) as usual....no echhi or yaoi/yuri. I don't like animes that are poorly drawn so stay away from those.

Thanks for hopefully, fulfilling my selfish request.

Smile Thanks

Hotarubi no Mori e
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Ocean Waves
Summer Wars

I have watched them except for ocean waves. Many people who commented on the movie had encouraged me not to watch it. Hotarubi no Mori e, however, was so amazing. I wish it had been atleast an hour and a half long. The other two movies were also great in their own way.

Thanks a lot for conquering my anime addiction! Unfortunately....i need more.
