Life will go on; I'd read alot more than I can do now, and probably start writing again. Besides, it will give people plenty of time to catch up on all the classics; and hopefully, this will mean more seeders for older series! |

Okay... this was a silly and unlikely thread to start with --- it'd be nice if it were buried with garlic.
Such a ban is highly unlikely .. the only remote scenario is if some lawmaker convinced enough of his fellows that anime was nothing but "Porn For Kids, Think of the Children" ... and then it'd spend years in court during which many people would discover that "banning anime" has about the same flavor as "banning television" because some of it contains porn. Violence? Watch a few episodes of Law&Order or CSI to get all the tips on committing some of the most gruesome crimes you can imagine or just watch what organized groups with big weapons are doing lately... I think we have a lot of other freedoms and social infrastructure being destroyed that need closer attention paid to. Please pay attention and get active...

if anime and manga were banned, then illegal distribution of such will be more flagrant. of course, life will go on. for a while, maybe the entertainment industry, fans, and artists will make something similar but under the name of something else. there may be some satire animation about the censorship laws and freedom of expression. you never know. i think a lot of people will actually react on this, both fans and non-fans. anime and manga are popular art form and media of expression so banning them will stir a lot of issues and political provocation... it will probably be a subject of intellectual discussion among various media and communication institutes and amateurs as well...

Anime and manga are - or were, at least - banned in Korea as an unwanted Japanese cultural item. In South Korea publishing houses just responded by hiring artists to make almost-exact copies of the most popular manga titles at the time (without paying royalties of course - even better!).
Anime and manga are low on the radar screens as damaging cultural influences. Far more damaging is plain ol' American TV. Read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" or Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death", or go see the new movie Idiocracy to see what I mean. |

EDIT: from the RIAA website http://www.riaa.com/news/newsletter/051906.asp I don't think the common downloader has much to fear, but the source of the download does. But look at that sentence, 6 months home confinement, its like an excuse to be a hikikomori.

Run Around in circles until I fall to the floor and laugh while crying very loud then suddenly god pops out of no where and grants 1 wish, and I wished for anime/manga to come back rather than have eternal life.

Why, of course I would learn to draw properly, my stories are good enough for mangas, and make them myself! Sure, they might not be as good as the real thing (and I'd know all of the plot twists >_>), but it's better than nothing. I could also feel like a rebel *giggle*

I would still keep all my collection of DVD's. That is over £600 worth of Anime, as if I would let that them perish! I have been collecting for over a year too. But it is unlikely that they will come door to door asking for Anime.
But, on a side note..why would it get banned anyway? Over here they have airred the whole Elfen Lied series uncut, which never made it to American Television, and we were also one of the only countries that airred that final episode of Excel Saga which contained extreme violence, child expoitation and all that stuff. Not even Japan showed that episode because it contained an offensive reference to a gas bomb in Tokyo Subway. |
