Okii lets see now.. What if one day... All the people who would make anime/manga stop making anime/manga because it was banned as they are scared that we follow what the anime/manga people do? [ You know like people who follows "inuyasha".. jump into da well ]

What would you think people do? [ i dunno wats gonna happen.. im to dizzy to think ]
Well, lets be optimistic for a change. Eh, highly unlikely they would stop making Animes because of being scared people will emulated them (Its more likely they'd stop because of internet pirates like me), but assuming they do stop:

Life will go on; I'd read alot more than I can do now, and probably start writing again. Besides, it will give people plenty of time to catch up on all the classics; and hopefully, this will mean more seeders for older series!

Okay... this was a silly and unlikely thread to start with --- it'd be nice if it were buried with garlic.

Such a ban is highly unlikely .. the only remote scenario is if some lawmaker convinced enough of his fellows that anime was nothing but "Porn For Kids, Think of the Children" ... and then it'd spend years in court during which many people would discover that "banning anime" has about the same flavor as "banning television" because some of it contains porn.
Violence? Watch a few episodes of Law&Order or CSI to get all the tips on committing some of the most gruesome crimes you can imagine or just watch what organized groups with big weapons are doing lately...

I think we have a lot of other freedoms and social infrastructure being destroyed that need closer attention paid to. Please pay attention and get active...

if anime and manga were banned, then illegal distribution of such will be more flagrant. of course, life will go on. for a while, maybe the entertainment industry, fans, and artists will make something similar but under the name of something else. there may be some satire animation about the censorship laws and freedom of expression. you never know. i think a lot of people will actually react on this, both fans and non-fans. anime and manga are popular art form and media of expression so banning them will stir a lot of issues and political provocation... it will probably be a subject of intellectual discussion among various media and communication institutes and amateurs as well...

Anime and manga are - or were, at least - banned in Korea as an unwanted Japanese cultural item. In South Korea publishing houses just responded by hiring artists to make almost-exact copies of the most popular manga titles at the time (without paying royalties of course - even better!).

Anime and manga are low on the radar screens as damaging cultural influences. Far more damaging is plain ol' American TV. Read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" or Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death", or go see the new movie Idiocracy to see what I mean.

I just looked this movie up, as I had never heard of it. Apparently, due to all the lawsuits from Starbucks or something, it was only released in like 6 cities. Now I really want to see it.

I'm hoping one of the arthouses in Berkeley might get around to playing it at some point. Or better yet, the Camera in San Jose. But I won't hold my breath - we'll probably have to wait for DVD.

....I'd probably just do what I usually do, I'm not that big of a fan of manga/anime as I used to be. However, it's unlikely they'd ban anime.

Laws haven't stopped me from stealing music/movies/software/road signs so why would they stop me from stealing anime?

well but ive heard that in rare cases ppl have been caught stealing music and have been fined...but the chances of getting caught is like a needle in a very big haystack...but it wasnt big enough for the guy who got caught tho...he was quite shocked too...

Normally the only people who got sued were the people who were sharing several thousand music files on programs like Kazaa or Limewire, and I believe that in somecases the RIAA agreed to drop the case if the P2Per signed a letter saying that they had deleted all of the copyrighted material from their harddrive and wouldn't do it ever again. But I would still imagine it would be rather stressful. The RIAA got what they wanted though in the form of pay-for-music downloads, and I haven't heard them screaming about illegal downloading in a while. They're still making money hand over fist. I don't delude myself by trying to convince myself that I'm not stealing or that they don't deserve the money, I just don't care. I'll take my chances.

EDIT: from the RIAA website http://www.riaa.com/news/newsletter/051906.asp

I don't think the common downloader has much to fear, but the source of the download does. But look at that sentence, 6 months home confinement, its like an excuse to be a hikikomori.

Run Around in circles until I fall to the floor and laugh while crying very loud then suddenly god pops out of no where and grants 1 wish, and I wished for anime/manga to come back rather than have eternal life.

Anime/Manga <3!

Mystic, you might want to check the dates on the last posts. You're raising some of these threads from the seriously long dead.

more than 50% of anime fans pirate it already, so what would be the change?!

Why, of course I would learn to draw properly, my stories are good enough for mangas, and make them myself! Sure, they might not be as good as the real thing (and I'd know all of the plot twists >_>), but it's better than nothing. I could also feel like a rebel *giggle*

I would still keep all my collection of DVD's. That is over £600 worth of Anime, as if I would let that them perish! I have been collecting for over a year too. But it is unlikely that they will come door to door asking for Anime.

But, on a side note..why would it get banned anyway? Over here they have airred the whole Elfen Lied series uncut, which never made it to American Television, and we were also one of the only countries that airred that final episode of Excel Saga which contained extreme violence, child expoitation and all that stuff. Not even Japan showed that episode because it contained an offensive reference to a gas bomb in Tokyo Subway.

It's mildly feasible in America, but, it's already so deep in the culture, so, when they're, if they're at it, why not also deport all Asian Americans!
