Alright, I've never seen the series in English, but seeing as how it is now out on DVD maybe someone who has seen the English version can help me.

Why does Gauln call Sousuke "Kashim"? Is that his original name, or was it a code name, or what? I'm just trying to be sure, here. I've already pretty much gathered that Sousuke is originally from the middle east somewhere, so it'd make sense if it was his name I guess.

yeah, he was from the middle east and his name was kashim then. i may be wrong but the last time i touched FMP was like long long ago

I think Sousuke is actually japanese, but Kashim was his name, or at least what they called him, when he was a mercenary in... well, wherever that desert was. I believe they did say he was originally japanese at some point early in the series.
