Screw that. I usually just netflix the stuff.

And also. Shame on me for turning this thread into listing your hobby's thread, even though such listing is relevant. Let's get some abstract generalized stuff too, guys.
Hah. Well I think your derailment, if you could call it that, actually turned out for the better. It's definitely better that each poster has put some context into both sides of the topic or else we wouldn't know what his or her basis for answering the thread was.

Eh, the nature of the topic is more concerned with the transient than the definite. Hell if I say if people should celebrate the adorableness of moe' character 9,001 in a group or not.

I think I can explain that. The reason why you are browsing through musings is because you wanted to hear and know what others are thinking about the same anime you watch everyday. In short, there might be a possibility that you are in fact, feeling lonely and having no one to converse with.

The shift away from VG forums towards gaming itself could be a sign of tiredness of socialising, and preference to be alone to test the tactics you have exchanged or read about, or simply just wanting to get away from something you are bored of.
You're about half right. You are correct in alluding to the notion that the socialization aspect is major for me but I wouldn't have largely abandoned video game forums if my main reason for being there was communicating with other gamers. My leaving the VG sites has more to do with the fact that my experience on such places has given me the more insufferable kind of socialization and it really doesn't help that this abrasive behavior becomes accentuated in online gaming. I do still look up those tactics, however, and use them to troll the ever living daylights out of online players. As my amount of time doing one activity (VG) increased I found that I still needed to socialize but I didn't feel inclined to stay dedicated to video game forums. My time around MAL and AS told me that the anime fandom is at least more civil than it is abrasive so I guess being on the forums more than actually watching anything was expected to happen.

It is the words you use that make you sound like a lawyer communicating to a hedge fund manager.

You sure that the guys on AS are civil? They have been :

1. Stealing my waifus
2. Corrupting my lolis
3. Posting questionable pornographic images of male-male relationships

How is being a bad influence to the younger female forum members civil?

Nonetheless, I think the reason why gamers tend to be abrasive is because of their instinct to challenge things, either borne out of their gaming lifestyles or their natural personalities. There are people like that on this forum who can be quite offensive in the way they write, but otherwise, they are nice people.

Some of them are even tsundere. Like Reck and Archon_Wing; sometimes I wonder if the portrayals in the anime world are much closer to the life we have out there than we realised.

Most of all, you have to be disciplined and you have to save, even if you hate our current financial system. Because if you don't save, then you're guaranteed to end up with nothing.

Not the kind of sales pitch I've been working towards then. I should Google "how to use inflection" sometime.

Are you sure you weren't describing /a/? And girls on the Int3rw3bz? What blasphemy is this?

I wonder if the gaming lifestyle itself might eventually have the opposite effect. After being at each other's throats for so long I was like "you know what? There's no point to this" and stopped being aggressive myself. But now that you've mentioned it, I wonder if people with certain personalities go toward certain activities more than it is a case of the activity creating the personality.

I read this blog post once that provided some history on western fashion and...breasts. Take this with a grain of salt but apparently DFC is not exclusive to Japan. Hrm...

You're right in saying every community has a civil side and a wild side. However, the question is whether the particular fandom is more well-behaved or more unruly. /a/ would be the exception instead of the standard.

Oh, is that what's usually going on in those series discussions?
That may explain, why I often fail to find anything interesting to read there or contribute to them.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about what others (at least on the internet) think about anime I watch.

The reason I still browse for things I watch, is to expand on my own experience of watching the anime. Maybe people have additional information that I'm missing, post related pictures, give insight into injokes and the like. This is all passive though.
At best the shared knowledge opens opportunities to spin off a discussion for something vaguely related to the anime (but not about the anime!). Then goes off topic.
I love going off topic.

But opinions? They are a toehold for trolling attempts at best.

Personally I have never really been the sort to put the socialization above the hobby itself. I'm always the person in a group who prefers to do the activity and less of the talking. One of my largest hobbies in life has always been tennis, and from tennis and sports more generally I always have taken a much more esrious attitude towards these sorts of hobbies. It's not that I am not having fun or anything, I really am, but if I wanted to simply socialize, well I'd simply just go and do so.

As it pertains to anime, I typically talk more about it than I actually watch, but unlike other activities I can't view an unlimited amount of anime, so it's not a matter of me choosing the social aspect more than the actual viewing of anime. There are only a finite amount of good titles I'd bother watching, with something like a game or a sport, I can do it so long as it entertains me.

But another hobby of mine is to discuss anime critically and analyze things and think about things about them. I almost consider that a separate hobby from the actual anime viewing itself.

Basically the tl;dr I rarely just socialize for the sake of socializing when it comes to my hobbies.

Hey now, lets not be spreading slander like this! I am a truly hateful person without a shred of good will in him.

Nightbat®: Thanks to that little gesture, they actually believe that the earth is full
of people who, deep down, are filled with kindness and caring!

Reckoner: Well that's absurd. People are bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling.

Nightbat®: Exactly!

No, it doesn't work that way.......what I mean is that you could use simpler words.....

/a/ is no different from /b/ because the former alphabet stands for the "ass" portion of the latter.

As for the girls, I'll leave the judgement to pedobear.

I liken it to the Bartle Test in this situation. Likewise, it can often applied in real life and politics to predict what people will do next.

There is nothing wrong with DFCs and their training bra or discussing about a shared liking! What is wrong with you MILFcons?

I think it is about the perception. I am starting to see a few people online who are as squishy as strawberries and can't take jokes, often regarding them as trolling.

As much as I want these people out into the harsh "real" world where nobody can punch the asshole on your behalf, I think the trolls can take care of them. Naturally.

So you enjoy Prince of Tennis? Or you enjoy being the Prince of Tennis?

I think I better stop before Sume-nee steps in.

Once both of you get D3 or HOTS, I'll beg to differ.
