Well, thats Haimura's design, Accelerator was meant to be ugly at first.

well his design achieves its purpose, i mean hes the only one whos hasnt gotten a radical redesign.

cant argue there, but the problem with clamp is actually the opposite i can tell if its a female character unless she has big breasts since even women have wide shoulders.

That's because he was created after the Great Haimura Renaissance of Volume 11.

Erm, I'm pretty sure the first few Index volumes were his original style, I mean- I bought his artbook and I'm looking at it right now; all of the old Galgames that he worked on was that style and Index is the only series using the new style.

In novells it was not told about it as far as I remember. It was told about his deformed smile, a look, a body. But it was not specified that he has an ugly or deformed person. His face sometimes is exposed to distortion because of a mimicry, but it not ugliness. Especially on official arts his represent nicely in many cases, the rest is a mimicry.
