I wonder how much of it was actually tatical voting. I believe people underestimated Kana and overestimated Mio.

While Kana got second place in her group on prelims, she was only 10 votes aways from first. Her vote totals weren't impressive (363) but again it was the first group so less vote totals are expected. Mio was the opposite, while her vote totals are big they're were less than expected even more for the final group.

I mean that Kana is stronger than expected. Couple that with Kana fans should have gone all out this match because they knew it would be hard and Mio fans doing the oposite because they imagined it was a easy win, and we have that result.

Tsukasa and Fuuko easily won their matches as expected. Nagi won her match as expected but with less trouble than I thought she would. Yesterday I said "if Mio chokes this match she can be out in Round 1". Mio choked. It's a bit disappointing that we never really get to see Mio's true power. Her preliminary group didn't really have any strong characters and her match with Kana doesn't feel right. I guess if all the other K-On characters bomb it would mean losing to Kana was the best Mio could do. Also congrats to Nodocchi on winning the contest.

Ikeda Kana gets a riichu ippatsu tsumo pinfu junchan sanshoku iipeikou dora san and kills her opponents. All four characters in the second match are middle tier in strength and fairly close to each other. All four of them have a shot at winning the match. I think Sairenji Haruna will come out on top. Another tough match for a Minami-ke character. Haruka and Isumi are fighting each other for first place. Considering what Kana just did, I'd say Haruka has the edge. Konata shouldn't have too much trouble with the fourth match.

I voted for Kana, but I can't really say I'm really too thrilled with this outcome...my poor brackets. If Mio were to lose, I'd have hoped in the third round or higher. Obviously this makes K-ON! selling 33,000 copies on Bluray in it's first week meaningless. Glad to know the fad is over and that K-ON! is so last week.

It's characters are overhyped, hence this being a moe contest. They have so much recognition that everyone not infatuated with them will not vote for them. Kagami did lose a similar way two years ago, but it was a much more impressive loss, and it was the second round - lol.

Overhype sells, ya. And so does Kyoani.

How well dvd's sell should have no place in a arguement on how well It's characters will do in a moe contest. Though I do believe K-on is a passing fad. It's short, and not very memorable.(IMO)

Either Mio's fanbase overestimated her power (and didn't vote for her because she'll win anyway), or her opponents gathered for an early kill.

On the otherhand Minami-ke has its own following, since all three sisters made it to the third round last year and Haruka personally defeated the 2007 champion early on (I still blame myself for that, but "Haruka is Amazing"...nii-pah~). I don't expect a backlash on Haruka...mainly because she is amazing. But if it was purely tactical, then something else will happen.
