I felt pain hearing that OP. S1 themes inspire mass sing-alongs in my parts and everyone present loves to hear them. I can't see that happening with the S2 themes. I get the connection due to the source material, but it's just...it feels so un-Kaiji. At least some edgy in-episode pieces have appeared especially that one with carefully restrained strings just past the halfway mark when Kaiji started to lose his cool. Episode ending shows how damn good that narrator is. He owned that episode so hard.

Yeah, it's funny because there's narration in the manga as well, but it's no where the same as having Tachiki belt out the words. |

Episode 2
Another 20 minutes flew by in a blink of an eye. There are only few anime that can interest me and absorb me this much. I'm sucked into the story and forget about the real world. Seriously, a true masterpiece. Spoiler for ep. 2:
And yeah, narrator rocks. |

Interesting episode. A frequent mistake of people is to gamble at stakes too high. When they fear losing and can't afford it, there's no way they can play rationally. Kaiji broke down frequently against the nasties. But there is sometimes a problem with playing too low; your game is not brought up to par and you will be too lazy.
The fear here is that if Kaiji really wants to bring his senses in, or he's just regain the thrill of gambling. If it's the later, then well, that's the path of a compulsive gambler and that never ends well. But despite the flaws in his thinking, Kaiji has matured somewhat since season 1, hopefully he can hold on before he falls completely in the abyss.

Well, in episode 3 we get yet some more people doing the zawas; they must be pretty popular to the Japanese fans.
Oh and finally Kaiji wins, Spoiler for Episode 3:
Things only get better from here on out. I wonder if we'll see you-know-who's son next week. |

They are definitely finding a way to gang up on him, but if you think about it Kaiji had already lost before he started.
Sometimes it's not about what you do in this situation, but how to prevent it from happening. He was already tricked into spending and borrowing on the snacks and now he really, really wants to get that one shot out of this hole. But aiming for stuff like that is just a fool's delusion.
