Given the description of the incident, I'd say he was really drunk, his girl asking to put away the guns. The act itself, had he survived, would've landed him in the brig and a court-martial... and possibly with a dishonorable discharge (and becoming an unfortunate example of how not to do).

They had to (along with Vietnam and maybe China), because I've heard too many cases of overtime playing where the hapless player goes down into a coma after a four-day vigil of endless grinding, as well as the usual aim against alleged gaming addiction and other related problems.
