(L) Hachimitsu to Kuroba/Honey and Clover

After I've had some time to think about Episode F:

I think the key is watching Miwako's response to Nomiya's question
to her about "what are you going to do with" Yamazaki.

At first it looks like she's being evil but I really think she has some
kind of peculiar fascination/attraction to him.

We know how he feels.

Unfortunately, with only 13 episodes this season I don't know if
that particular storyline is going to be pursued further..

I suspect the focus is going to be on:

-takemoto/hagu/morita triangle

-mayama/ayu/rika triangle

But what really will happen is very likely in the manga for all to see.

My theory: even Morita, talented though he might be is very, very
intimidated by her level of talent. He's attracted to her because
of her talent and innate cuteness but only she might be able to
relate to that supreme creative urge he shares but in some ways
there's a level of professional jealousy happening. I'm a musician
and I see musicians being jealous of each others talents all of the
time.

My thinking: It would never last.

Too much instability and I think that's where Takemoto comes in - the
guy went off on this massive bike ride almost like something Morita
would do but ultimately he's like bedrock. Dependable.

He built her the Rococo. See episode L. And the confession
at the end of the last episode. His cards are on the table. If she says
no I think his constitution is significantly enhanced now that he could
move on and find someone else. He's kind of a 'Morita-in-waiting' now.

More on Morita: When asked about his own situation after Shuuji and
Mayama were discussing Ayu/Rika and suddenly changed the subject
to Morita he gets flustered, embarassed, leaves claiming he's going to
get something to eat.

He may be The Man but he's just like all of us when dealing with
the terror of confessing or whatever.

Notice how he was able to tell Ayu that he and Mayama stayed up
all night worrying about her during the height of the Mayama/Ayu/
Rika stalemate. And she seemed genuinely touched and Morita
actually seemed ....angry. A true rarity for him.

I did a little thinking on this, and I have some ideas to bring up. I had a Morita-type in my old gang back in the old days (and a Takemoto and a Mayama, come to think of it), and I think professional jealousy just doesnt cut it right. Morita is definitely a virtuoso, and when you have no equal, you start wishing for your own kind. So I think Morita sees Hagu as a kindred spirit. Their relationship is very strong because theres no substitute for it, but at the same time, a bit shallow, at least in Morita's case. I dont know women well enough to speak for Hagu, but I think that Hagu's

transformation after getting kissed has something to do with her understanding how Morita sees her, and thus she also starts relating to Morita in the same fashion and becomes 'manlier'

Morita doesnt seem to give any devotion to socializing. He's very devoted to his occupation, and plays jokes/bullies takemoto/helps almost everyone to compensate for his neglect. Morita x Ayu might not work since in this light he doesnt really care for her, he's caring for her in a style kinda similar to Miwako . Yes, I'm saying he doesn't really care very deeply about anyone. His best bet for romance is Hagu, but their relationship will never be truly deep. Anyone else will just get hurt by the thorns (or should I say, the hedgehog's dillema? p/s:I started watching this anime because some respectable dude in another forum kept talking about how great H&C is and that the story for the anime was sculpted by GAINAX in every other post he made. Could anyone confirm the latter?). But that's just the way I see it based only by the anime.

I've watched the special chapters and wandered into the manga discussions, and I'm quite happy to see Takemoto finally expressing himself. It was pitifully laughable that he was underestimated and ignored to the point that his friends forgot about his birthday, at his birthday party! And then they thought he was a weak low-level character who wouldnt even make it to the next town with lvl. 1 equipment, let alone fare well in his quest for level-ups....... but at least I think Hagu realized how important Takemoto was to her during his absence, and maybe even understood the concept of love.................... (again, based on the anime only. from what i got from the manga, she's devoted herself to art. Damn you Mooritaaaa!)

I want to see Ayu finally noticing Takemoto in season 2. It'll never come to anything, but it's a quantum leap in the right direction, Takemoto!

Morita's feeling towards Ayu is pure friendship. He cares for her well being and he cares about her love life because he does not want to see her sad AND he does not want to see his other friend Mayama sad. I can't see more to it, but if there will be then I wouldn't mind it. Anything is okay as long as Morita is happy~ XD [/Morita fangirl]

No, in the anime, we can see Morita falling in love in episode 1 when Mayama was threating him and then, Morita "blocked" when he saw Hagu...(mayama said "morita-san..moshi, moshi?!!) Then, Morita ran away and we see the wheel of the bicycle, which means that Morita is also falling in love...so beautiful!

I agree, it was very beautiful especially with the background music "Hachimitsu"!

Speaking of which, I really hope they keep using songs as BGM for "special" moments (everytime my winamp plays Suga Shikao - Sorosoro Ikanakucha, my heart flutters remembering Mayama and Rika and the speeding car and wah *-*).

Anyways, I'm glad it's clear that Morita fell in love with Hagu, but it seemed it wasn't for some people or made them doubt a little because it wasn't actually said. ^^

I had the exact same thought but someone got really made at me for
making the suggest at another forum. And here too, in fact.

It makes a lot of sense, especially if you look at "Episode 24 Takemoto",
he's almost like:

He's gone thru an amazing transformation: he is now a cooler, more
self-assured Mayama and certainly in better shape (it takes a heck of
a lot to bike that kind of distance - Takemoto is now BUFF!) and no
bad habits. He's transformed and someone is going to recognize
that whether it's Hagu, Ayu or some other girl we haven't met yet.

I was just hoping to see Takemoto's sex appeal go up (even if only by a little) next season. He is the main character, after all. If the star stays in everyone else's shadow....... it'll end like eva or something.

Actually, Takemoto seems to be the most manly of the trio now -- Morita, Takemoto and Mayama.

I just started to watch Honey and Clover for the first time, and currently watching episode 12. I really love the series so much, and I still have half-way to go . It's on my top ten anime of all time, for sure, if not top five or even higher. I've been watching three or four episodes in a row - I'm so addicted to it. Just wanted to say that I'm now in love with Honey and Clover ...off to watch more episodes.

Success: I got my wife to watch it. It didn't take long before she got past
the fact that Hagu looks like she's 11 and got into the story.

Problem: now she's asking me "are there any other anime like H&C with
as good a story?" I can think of some good anime, but on the same level?
Not at this time. Maybe Paradise Kiss but it's not the same as H&C.

The song where Takemoto is riding on his bike journey in episode 24 is
not in the soundtrack. So what is this enigmatic song? It sounds like
it was done by the same type of bands/singers. I looked in Wikipedia
but I'm not sure that's it - it claims Spica by Spitz but I'm not sure if
it is the ambient thing where Takemoto is lying on his back looking at
the milky way (Spica being a constellation).

Yup, the insert song in the last episode is Spika. You're talking about the song that starts to play after Takemoto says, "Hashirou!", right? (Around 7:05 in the Solar subs that I have.) The instrumental song that plays earlier in the episode while Takemoto is looking at the stars is "Mawaridasu Sharin", if I'm not mistaken. It's the first track on the Honey and Clover OST.
