(L+CR) Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (movie & TV)

Actually I have a question (if anyone knows)...what happened to Goer's fleet? Or was that the bit cut from episode 25? The Goer's heading to Gamilas with 3,000 ships, but is still 2 months away when we last saw him in Episode 22.

None of the trailer stuff or spoiler have even mentioned Goer's fleet even once.

Had a chance to read a bit on the Garmillas carriers.

The 3 Guyperon class ships that we saw are three different variants. The blue one is the oldest of the three, the purple one introduces the angled deck, and the green one being the newest model, has triangular frontal edges.

The battle carrier is red because it is the prototype number 1 but I don't know why it is not the name ship. Similarly, the 730m Seguud Class has the first red colored ship as the name ship.

The Yamato Earth Side settings book mentioned that a total of 8 Kongo Class battleships were constructed, 5 of which were lost during the outer space wars. and the remaining 3 received some tuning for the turrets in light of the Garmillas invasion.

Thanks to the precious help of my facebook Yamato 2199 page fans, Robert Worne and Kaichiro Nakano, who provided the translation from japanese to english, here it is, the subtitled version of Chapter 7's Trailer. I hope you like it. Be warned, it does contain a couple of spoilers so...tread lightly.

Had a table top miniatures game today recreating the Battle of Gamilas as depicted in the New Voyages TV movie. Though using ships modified to reflect changes in the Gamilas ship in Yamato 2199. The Gamilas fleet managed to do heavy damage to the Dark Nebula fleet prior to the arrival of ships from Earth. A battle report will came later once I get pictures from the other person's camera, as mine started to fail halfway through the game.

44 Gamilas ships (mostly heavy cruisers) verse 50 Nebulas ships (most larger than Gamilas battlecruisers), with a number of Earth ships that came in at the end to finishe the game after 8 hours.

Bellow are synopsis of the main events on the final 4 episodes. Episode 23's are only for the 2nd act as the first has already been streamed online. These were reported to me by a fellow fan which has seen the movie.

Episode 23:

Spoiler for Ep. 23 - ONE MAN'S WAR (2nd Act):

Part of Desler's palace collapses from the damage caused by the impact of Yamato and the Deusler's liftoff. In the confusion Hilde is hurt. Hyss carries her out.

Okita relieves Kodai of his duties as Tactical Officer so he can go after Yuki. He takes off in the Cosmo Zero with Yurisha toward New Baleras and is assisted by Melda, Yamamoto, Kato and the other Hayabusas.

Block 633 heads for Baleras. Hyss gives the order to evacuate Baleras and people run away in terror.
Velte Talan asks Desler why he's doing that. Desler addresses the nation to tell them New Baleras will go to Iscandar and become the new capital, serving as the bridge between Iscandar and Gamilas. Hyss gets angry with "Desleeeeer!"

Okita orders Nanbu to shoot the wave motion gun at the dropping block, which he does successfully.
The people of Baleras are saved by the Yamato. Okita collapses on his seat.

Desler prepares to fire the Desler-gun at Yamato again. He tells Talan he's the only person who can be responsible for the victims on Garmillas. Yuki runs into a control room with Norran in order to stop Desler from shooting. She manages to hack into the system. Then, Norran locks her out of the room and ejects her out of an airlock. (She IS wearing a space suit XD). Yuki floats into space.

When Desler pulls the trigger, Norran sets the final sequence. New Baleras explodes when the Desler-gun backfires. Gimleh's fleet is caught in the blast and destroyed

Kodai sees the explosion and is despaired because he had failed to save Yuki... until they spot her, floating in space. They hug each other and look at nearby Iscandar.

Episode 24:

Spoiler for Ep. 24 - THE FARAWAY PROMISED LAND:

Okita thanks the crew for their work. The Yamato sets down on the ocean of the beautiful planet Iscandar.
Sanada, Kodai, Niimi and Yuki (without Okita) go ashore to meet Starsha.
Starsha and Iscandaroids meet them. She mistakens Yuki as the late Sasha.

She refuses to give them the Cosmo Reverse System because she's angry that the earth people applied the wave-motion theory into making a weapon, the wave motion gun.
Surprisingly, Iscandar had gained control of planets once upon a time with the wave motion gun and they had regretted their destruction.

Starsha talks to Hyss on Garmillas through the communication array and he tells her how the Garmillas underestimated Yamato and how the Yamato saved Baleras and its people by using its wave motion gun. Yurisha also takes a stand for the Yamato and its crew

Starsha takes Kodai to a cemetery and shows him a grave post. It's Mamoru's.
Mamoru, who had been taken prisoner by Garmillas, died on Iscandar.

As they wait for Starsha's decision, the Yamato's crew enjoy some RnR.

Yurisha takes a walk with Yuki and shows her a blue flower.
She tells her the cosmo reverse system requires the element of a planet. The substance of which memories are made of. (What that actually means is open to your interpretation. Mine is that the system need a "soul" and it's memories as a blueprint to restore the planet. In this case, Mamoru's memories of the blue Earth will serve as the template to reset the planet).

Starsha cries and talks with something small, floating and shining. (Mamoru's life force? The substance to which Yurisha was refering?)

Starsha and the Iscandaroids suddenly visit the Yamato with the parts for the system. They and the Yamato's technical staff reconstruct Yamato as the cosmo reverse system. (The CRS is actually built into the Yamato). She then shows the crew a video message from Mamoru.

Yamato departs from Iscandar. Yurisha decides to return to Garmillas with Melda to assist in the rebuild.

Episode 25:

Spoiler for Ep. 25 - WAR WITHOUT END:

On the way to the Earth, Yamato discovers a drifting Garmillan spaceship and aboard they find Celestra.

The Yamato arrives at Balun and find the Milky Way gate is active... what they don't know is that it's being powered by Goer's fleet, in hiding. (Perhaps under Desler's command?!)
In spite of the risk, the Yamato passes through the gate, connected to the Milky Way Galaxy.

The Deusler II ambushes Yamato in subspace. A Gamiloid unit breaks into the Yamato. Desler also went out to see the Yamato's captain and captures Yuki. Celestra runs to Desler but her mental habilities (somehow out of control) hit him and he shoots her, in spite of himself. Broken she tries to shoot Desler, and then herself.
Delser's attendants try to shoot her. Yuki tries to help her but is shot herself. Kodai finds Yuki lying on the floor. Desler leaves Kodai and Yuki (without shooting) and returns to the Deusler.

Niimi and Analyzer successfully destroy the control system for the Gamiloids
with a newly developed computer virus they made with information obtained when they studied Alter (the Gamiloid in Episode 9).

Yamato bombards the Deusler II and finally destroy it (supposedly killing the wounded Desler in the process).

The Yamato emerges from the gate. Before them is the Milky Way Galaxy.

Episode 26:

Spoiler for Ep. 26 - MEMORIES OF A BLUE STAR:

Yuki is dying, in spite of Dr. Sado's best efforts. He and Sanada settle Yuki in the freezing capsule at the auto navigation system to keep her alive.
Kodai behaves cheerfully as the leader of Yamato.
He also makes plans for wedding party for Saburo Kato and Makoto Harada, who is expecting their baby. (Yep, THAT happened XD ).

There's a rumour going around the ship; A soldier walking around the Yamato. (much like the rumours of the ghostly figure that was Yurisha. Can this be Mamoru Kodai?).

The cosmo reverse system was installed and started to work. Sanada concludes that the core of the CRS is Mamoru

Yuki dies. Kodai wants to keep it secret in order to avoid a dark atmosphere spreading in the ship and spoiling the wedding party.

The Yamato is now very close to Earth. Mamoru calls for a sleeping Okita and tells him something.
The cosmo reverse system shuts down suddenly and Sanada can't restart it.
Sanada shouts to the system and ask why (Check that scene on the trailer).

Yuki comes back to life. Finally, brave Captain Okita passes away. The CRS begins to reboot...
And then, a miracle happens.

(My source didn't reveal much about the final scenes. From what i understand, the CRS shuts down because Mamoru's spirit, which basically "fuels" the thing, leaves it to restore Yuki back to life. When Okita dies, his own spirit takes Mamoru's place in the CRS and restores Earth. So, in a poetic kind of way, Okita becomes the very Earth he so loved. Earth is rebuilt out of Okita's memories. And frankly, i can't think of a better mind to use).

Yamato came back to Earth on December 8th, 2199.

Like the original, all we see is the Yamato heading to the red Earth and then it slowly turns into the blue Earth. Personally, i think it's better that way. They at least explained how the CRS works, this time XD Also, a couple of Yamato crew characters will be severelly injured and presumably killed...Iwata and Tohyama... I hope they're just injured and that one of those missing scenes in episode 25 tells us they're still alive.

Interesting. I wonder what the scenes that were dropped for the theatrical release will bring to the story. It would likely be a subplot that doesn't effect the main plot, or even it is was, was something they could get away without showing.

Thinking things over a little and depending on how these scenes in episode 25 play out, I've thought of something for the future:

Spoiler for Series 2:

What if the designers decided to use modified version of Dessler events of Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato and Yamato II? The first direct encounter being in 2199 with Dessler's huge flagship with the older Talan onboard. Dessler gets shot, leaves and ship ship blown up (or at least the larger ship is blown up. Not sure about the core core command ship.)

In the next series, if it follows at least partly the Gamilas events, we find that the wounded Dessler warped the core command section away while in hyperspace. He could end up anyplace at that point. He might be picked up by the Comet Empire and be imprisoned by Zordar, or given the option of aiding him in debt for saving his life. Revenge on Yamato. Though I wonder about Celesteria's mental abilities perhaps altering Dessler. Maybe correcting his madness? That combined with whatever plot he could get in Series 2 ends up with the Dessler we know from the orignal Yamato II and beyond.

The Series 2 version would have Yamato boarding Dessler's flagship and Kodai be wounded. In their duel, Yuki comes in after Kodai passes out from bloodloss...before Dessler even shoots him. His reaction to her mixed with everything else is what tips him away from revenge. He leaves with the younger Talan to go back home...perhaps to face trail for what he did.

But he's Dessler. More lives than a cat that one has. If he can prove his worthiness as leader of his people again, he might just be Emperor in Series 3+. That or he founds a second empire in the heart of the Milky Way Galaxy. Because there is no telling what the Comet Empire will do to Gamilas with the Fleet mostly destroyed and the rebels in control under Hyss and Dietz. And while Earth might not care what happens to Gamilas, Earth owes Iscandar a debt. If something happens, Yamato will be sent to save Starsha of Iscandar.

But for us, the viewers..that will be years from now at the earliest...if ever.

I think I've missed something among the spoilers.

Why was Kodai put in charge of the ship? Did something happen to Sanada? I know Capt. Okita assigns Kodai to assume his duties in the Classic show, but in 2199 Sanada is established as the XO, so shouldn't he be the one now in charge with Okita out of commission? There have been so many changes between the original to the reboot that I'm really curious.

Unknown. Unless of course they do have them but they are smallish gunports one wouldn't normally see.

However most Gamilas ships seem to have somr kind of missile launcher near the bridge. It might be a version of the stack missiles on Yamato, but then again it could be a type on interception missile to be used against missiles and fighters.

Or just that the Gamilas consider such ships expendable and thus not need such defenses. Especialy since they usually operate in numbers.

With the Cosmo Reverse System onboard and in need of construction, I think Sanada has his hands full just with that device. So if the Captain is out due to illness and the XO is required to be in the science department the whole trip so that they can save the Earth when they get home....who is next in the chain of command? Probably Kodai.

The wonder will be what they will do in a potental second series with Yamato and who will command her.

The only dissapointment I've had so far from the spoilers is the lack of a reappearance of Battleship Kirishima and her bow cannon to save the day against Dessler near Earth. We've still not seen an older Earth ship use its bow weapon. I suppose they will save that to a prequel OVA about the War since that weapon was suppose to be what stopped the Gamilas advance at Mars.

Considering Gatlantis made a cameo with their ships in Domel's introduction episode, it's a safe bet that a sequel will follow Yamato II/Farewell Yamato, unless they decide to go for an all-original series and do Yamato II/Farewell Yamato later.

They've pretty much suggested they intend to go as far as Yamato III by bringing in Hirata in the first series remake.

I know all about the fan rage over Farewell Yamato, hence the "/" since Yamato II was a fan-friendly remake of Farewell. Same basic plot, same new introductions, different ending.
Okita didn't come back until Final Yamato, so a season three remake would be perfectly fine. I actually found Okita's sudden and convenient revival for Final, just so he could be killed again for drama, to be a bit contrived, honestly.

However, from what I've been reading, I can see a way to bring him back for a remake of Final Yamato. The "Spirit of Yamato" so to speak in a new body.

What I was refering to was what state Yamato would be in at the start of the next series.

In Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato, the battleship Yamato is more or less about to become a museum piece, or even scrapped as "old" (even though it is only about a two year old ship at the time in 2201). The new fleet is headed by the newly finished Space Battleship Andromeda, pride of the Defense Council. The crew as gone back to their posting from before or got promotions to new posting. Kodai is the captain of a frigate that escorts freighters in the Solar System. After...stealing...Yamato they eventually pick up Admiral Hijikata from the wrecked outer system patrol fleet and he's made Captain of Yamato, when given an official mission.

In Yamato II, on the other hand, Kodai is still "acting captain" of Yamato as it serves as lead vessel of the inner system patrol fleet that basically escorts freighters around the Solar System. Yamato is due for a refit to make her up to standards for the renewed Earth Defense Forces fleet and Hijikata is the Admiral of the Fleet with his flag on the newly commissioned Space Battleship Andromeda. The crew of Yamato is still mostly scattered back into the fleet or other defense commands with only a few of them actually still stationed on Yamato.

Given Hijikata's pominate position in Yamato 2199's UN Cosmo Navy as the Admiral that takes over from Okita, I imagine he'll get Andromeda in a new series, if he isn't given Yamato from the start as flagship of the fleet. Kodai might maintain his posting, or get a new command, I can't say. But since they now have rank insignia, we can tell if people get propotions or not.

I am wondering what context it is that Kodai and Yuki get new jackets for their Yamato uniforms.
