[Anime] Episode 49: The other side of the door

Very interesting episode, and once again proves that the conversations in FMA are really well written.

This time the core conversation is a discussion on alchemy and the law/reality of equavilant trade between Ed and Dante. Really great stuff.

After the initial shock of Fullmetal Archer, it really doesn't feel as bad anymore, plus I think he's being set up as the mid-boss for Mustang-tachi while Pride himself will likely be the final obstacle for them.

As for last week's next ep preview voice-over, yes it IS relevant. What it really entails for the series will probably be explained next week in full. Basically Ed and Hohenheim are both now in similar bodies in London circa WW1, except Ed doesn't have any automail. I'm sure alot of people are going to be pissed but I expected FMA to be an alternate reality of our world circa 1900s for several episodes already so this comes as no real surprise but a pleasent confirmation.

I'll also be leaving this board for 2 weeks now, only to return after I have seen the final episode. I encourage free speech and don't believe in telling others what to do or say, so I don't think it would be fair to ask everyone to stop speculating or talking about FMA, but I really don't want any other views to influence what I feel or expect out of the final two episodes so I'll just go into hiding until it's all over.

The conversations here have mostly been informative and interesting and all of us have played a part in contributing I believe. It's been a great ride from Bones so far imo, and I'm definitely in the anime > manga camp, but hey to those that thing otherwise, you're not wrong either. ^_^

So here's really hoping they won't cop out on the end and give us a smashing and definite finale only to follow it up with a solid movie that doesnt undermine the existance of the series!

They had better make the finale pretty damn amazing to make up for this bullshit. This was the LAST thing I wanted to see FMA turn into. I'm not going to say the ending sucks in general until I see then ending, but this does NOT look good.

In my case I'll stop my speculations. ^^

Thing you mentioned seems a bit odd, but they've pulled off odd stuff really well before, so I'm gonna wait to see it to judge it...

I just thought, if Ed got his arm and leg back in there, could that mean that an alternate version of Al's body is floating around there somewhere? Or am I just misinterpreting things? :P

Y'know what? Screw it. I watched the raw, and it was actually kinda cool. I'd like to see where things are going.

Also, I guess this means it'd be easy enough to make a sequel and everything following a different concept. Thinking into it, this might not be as bad as it sounded at first.

I just hope the ending is not a cop out like Big O.... in Big O... the main character's world was all fake and basically all 25 episodes leading up to the last one were rendered pointless.

I agree, that would be extremely disappointing...

Maybe it's something like the MWI theory...where each decision leads to mulitple realities...completely different worlds, that would be better than having a place we've watched for 40 episodes turn out to be fake -_-. Bleh, I don't know, might help if we knew what Dante and Ed said before he was brought before the gate.

Anyway, the preview for 50 looks great, can't wait.

yea I was thinking about that too. And if Wrath is from the other side of the gate, and if the gate is what makes Alchemy possible...

Selim isn't that young, he's like 10 years old. So he'd be concived when Bradley's in his 40's. So it isn't *too* late.

Men's "stuff" works for a very long time haha it isnt unheard of for 70-80 yr olds to have a kid as long as the woman isnt too old

That's the strange thing. If this other world is beyond the gate, wth does the gate have to do with the truth? -_- Or is it something like the Chronicles of Amber and our reality is the 'Truth'. But then again, that doesn't explain Wrath nor all the funky hallucinations that Ed and Al see when they go beyond the gate.

And FMA anime has this BAD habit of ignoring character strength. Izumi should have kicked Archer's ass, automail or NO automail -_-.

Not to mention shouldn't the baby have died straight away after being dropped from that height? Even if Ed caught it. I can't imagine it not breaking the majority of the bones in its body .
